How do you lead a fulfilling life? That profound question animates this book of inspiration and insight from world-class business strategist and bestselling author of The Innovator’s Dilemma, Clayton Christensen. After beating a heart attack, advanced-stage cancer and a stroke in three successive years, the world-renowned innovation expert and author of one of the best selling and most influential business books of all time – The Innovator’s Dilemma – Clayton M. Christensen delivered a short but powerful speech to the Harvard Business School graduating class. He presented a set of personal guidelines that have helped him find meaning and happiness in his life – a challenge even the brightest and most motivated of students find daunting. Akin to The Last Lecture in its revelatory perspective following life-altering events, that speech subsequently became a hugely popular article in the Harvard Business Review and is now a groundbreaking book, putting forth a series of questions and models for success that have long been applied in the world of business, but also can be used to find cogent answers to pressing life questions: How can I be sure that I’ll find satisfaction in my career? How can I be sure that my relationships with my spouse, my family and my close friends become enduring sources of happiness? How can I avoid compromising my integrity (and stay out of jail)? How Will You Measure Your Life? is a highly original, surprising book from a singular business figure. It’s a book sure to inspire and educate readers – companies and individuals, students of business, mid-career professionals, and even parents – the world over. Tano Alpuche _anoalpuche — Not as adventurous in form as his other fiction. Quite witty and inventive, just the same. Not autobiography but not fiction, not sure. Mathews recounts a time in 1973 when he is widely mis-identified as a CIA agent in Europe. Unable to shake the misconception, I he decides to play it to the hilt, setting off on clandestine adventures designed to tantalize those who are observing him. This book picked up significantly after the initial set of the conceit. It tongue-in-cheekily dives into thriller territory and stays there for much of the book. Much more of a fun read than I expected. Worth reading if only for the section in which Mathews is hired as a consultant for a group of dyslexic travelers who are prone to reading train and plane schedules backwards when under stress. He wittily constructs multiple European travel itineraries that consist completely of departures at palindromic times so that they would be the same whether read backwards or forwards. Mathews, unsurprisingly, is the sole American representative in Oulipo, a long-standing French literary group dedicated to sophisticated literary structures and games.

webvisionsa
Web Vision webvisionsa — Pretty good, although not as compelling as Mistborn: The Final Empire. I think this is partly because fighting to keep a country/empire just isn't as exciting as fighting to overthrow one. Also, the world wasn't new and fresh, so there was a little bit of thrill gone. Still, Brandon Sanderson spins a good tale, with a number of interesting and memorable charcters (Vin, Sazed, Oneseur, Zane, the Ventures). Oh, and Clubs, Ham, Dockson, and Breeze also make appearances (okay, I'm being unfair, I think Breeze graduated to "interesting" this book - but I could still do without most of the rest of Kelsier's crew). I liked the continued "notes from the past" that started each chapter, and I was pretty happy about how Sanderson resolved the seeming conflict between the historical accounts and what actually seemed to have happened in the past. Biggest disappointments - the realized fear that this was going to be a bridge book, clearly setting us up for the the next one, to contrast with The Final Empire, which worked well as a standalone, and Vin's ever-increasing powers - there should be a limit at some point, lest we start reading Dragonball Vin.
