Memo Elhawary1 memoelhawry1 — Very entertaining. Gaiman has a vision of the world unlike any author I've read. It's hard to characterize him, but that's what makes these works so much fun.

Marcia Oliveira _ona_aysa — It's a little disturbing that most (if not all) reviews of this book are by women and/or recommended to women and girls. I have just read it, and enjoyed it immensely. It can be a little sentimental in parts, but overall it is a great holiday read, especially if you are a NY-phile like myself. The author paints a great picture of Brooklyn life early last century. Definitely a classic.

Gregory Stephenson triadfreelea28 — This book is about outliers, or actually that there are no outliers. Gladwell looks at people who are uniquely gifted and successful and argues that their success does not come from their own talent and brilliance. Rather, a combination of factors contribute to make that person successful (serendipitous circumstances, when they were born, some giftedness, upbringing and about 10,000 hours of work). I like Gladwell's writing. I have no idea if the inferences he makes about people's success are true, but I hope they are.

_manuele_amburlani
Emanuele Tamburlani _manuele_amburlani — I have been watching the BBC2 series My life in Books and saw the interview with Jeanette Winterson and Alastair Campbell. I found Winterson fascinating and very funny. I remember a little of the BBC adaptation of Oranges are Not the Only Fruit in 1985, but I did not read or watch it at the time as 'it as not my sort of thing'. After this present program I decided to correct this deficit. It is mainly autobiographical interspersed with sections of dreams/allegories. An adopted child brought up in a deeply religious (Pentacostal) household Jeanette is groomed to become a missionary by her overbearing mother. Problems arise during adolescence when she realises her sexuality, a Lesbian, and has to face the wrath of her church and mother. If the theme seems grim, and in many ways it was a deprived skewed childhood, the story is told with wit, humour and insight. I believe this book is now on the A level reading list.

Corbin Jensen corbjens2d50 — When considering the plight of immigrants legal and illegal, this book did offer some very good insight. The story takes place in England but the same story could happen anywhere people have traveled to have a better life. The book was a gift from my daughter-in-law and I thank her for her recommendation.

Wang Baichao boriswang — This was book ten in the Rebus series and definitely the best yet.
