luciancoman
Lucian Coman luciancoman — I hated this. I'm starting to think that I just don't like British Literature. I mean, I disliked Jane Austin, Harry Potter, Shakespeare (well, he's hit or miss for me), and now this. The narration would take me so much out of the storyline that even with re-reading passages; I was still left confused as to what was happening. It also didn't help that I disliked the characters. I only liked Nana the dog, and Tink surprisingly enough. She wasn't the villain Disney originally had her, and the dog wasn't even in a quarter of the book. Yes, the people I liked were such minor characters. It was a shame Peter was such a, brat. Oh well. *edit* I wanted to add that the now racist and sexist terminology and gender was at times difficult for me to take. Europe can shove that whole notion of being better than racism because the image of the "noble savage" coupled with the native population only being referred to as "redskins" leapt off the page and slapped me in the face. This was also clearly written by a man too. Neverland was to escape responsibilities, so why would Wendy go to take them on? I could see for a little while; little girls often play house. But for months? How was that fun? At all? I do get that this is a reflection of its time, place, and culture. But I don't think I'll be sharing this one with my kids. Sometimes some things are better left in the past.

anuska
Anna Tarrida anuska — Superman: The Re-boot. A more brooding, less decisive young Clark Kent must decide whether to expose his truee super human nature and thus give up his 'life,' or remain unknown and have a normal human life. There have been other takes and adaptations on Superman's story, some much darker, some set in the future, one recent one looking at if Kal-El's space ship had crashed near a farm in Soviet Russia instead of Smallville, Kansas, but this one is satisfying in how close to the original it sticks but still making us uncertain if he will stand for truth, justice, and as humanity's defender. Our young hero teeters on the brink until...but don't let me spoil a fine Superman story before you have a chance to read it for yourself!

_arry_elmann
Harry Oelmann _arry_elmann — An obsessively poetic mental health warning against marriage, pre-war divas and Americans abroad. Fitzgerald's incredibly polished sentences frame sore wisdoms about people and why we inevitably get each other wrong much of the time etc. Beautiful people of the 1930s glide around the French Riviera misreading each other, and then amusing each other, and then understanding each other too well and getting scared. Fitzgerald writes so well it's frightening. High intensity, hard work and high maintenance; highly recommended.

_
Samantha Azizo _ — Mostly Harmless is the fifth instalment in The Hitchhiker’s Guide To The Galaxy trilogy by Douglas Adams. It was to be the final book in the series; later, however, Douglas started writing a sequel. This was sadly never finished, due to his untimely death. In recent years, Eoin Colfer was given the task of writing the sixth book. In 2009 And another thing came out, 17 years after Mostly Harmless. It proved to be a welcome addendum to the fans. In Mostly Harmless, Douglas Adams proves yet again that he is the master of science-fiction comedy. His unique way of writing is recognized as soon as you open the book, featuring the quirky characters, the strange names, the detailed descriptions of ordinary things and bizarre happenings; they are all still there, and in good shape too. So to all the loyal fans who have waited for this book; you are in for a treat. But I must warn you. Adams ends this book in such a bold way that no other author than him could have done it, and gotten away with it. Arthur Dent has finally settled down on a calm planet and at last everything in his life is going perfectly well. As a matter of fact, he has become superiorly skilled at making sandwiches; he has become the renowned sandwich maker of the village. But one day, his old friend Trillian shows up, and Arthur are bound for yet a rat race to save Earth. Can he prevent its doom? When I read this book, I was immersed in the story right away, and it kept me laughing and pondering all the way through. The seemingly random odds and ends gather together and form a jigsaw puzzle that locks in place in the very end. When Douglas tries to untangle all of his previous entanglements, it may be a bit hard to keep track. Still, I got to the end without too much confusion, since Douglas is an author of excellent calibre. The ending made me sit there and just stare at the book, asking myself “Really? Did he really just do that? Wow.” It took me ten minutes to accept it, and start viewing it as another rather cool and typical Douglas thing to do; I think fans will agree. But this is a very bleak book that may leave you with an unpleasant taste in your mouth. I would still recommend it to anyone who has read the previous books though. In the book, Adams uses a third person voice to tell the story, making us view the galaxy through his eyes, as close to his mindset as we can get. It works greatly for taking in all the details of the environment and the characters. Arthur Dent, Ford Prefect and Trillian McMillan are acting in completely unusual ways, as is their wont. They interact with each other with the same spice of conversation that always makes you giggle. But a new character is introduced. Prepare yourself to meet Random. She is a whiny teenage girl who hates most things, and on top of this, she is somewhat mentally unstable as well. Her character adds to the charm of the book for readers under twenty (and their parents), as she reflects the typical life of a teenager spot on and in a very humorous way. Arthur is still charming with his appreciation of things and his profound sense of being unluckily lucky. The purpose and meaning of this book is as it has always been with Douglas – to entertain in a most witty and intelligent way. And he delivers without failure. This is the book you have all been waiting for, the book that explains everything. Well, mostly everything.
