Predictably Irrational: The Hidden Forces that Shape Our Decisions Why do smart people make irrational decisions every day? The answers will surprise you. Predictably Irrational is an intriguing, witty and utterly original look at why we all make illogical decisions. Why can a 50p aspirin do what a 5p aspirin can't? If an item is "free" it must be a bargain, right? Why is everything relative, even when it shouldn't be? How do our expectations influence our actual opinions and decisions? In this astounding book, behavioural economist Dan Ariely cuts to the heart of our strange behaviour, demonstrating how irrationality often supplants rational thought and that the reason for this is embedded in the very structure of our minds. Predicatably Irrational brilliantly blends everyday experiences with a series of illuminating and often surprising experiments, that will change your understanding of human behaviour. And, by recognising these patterns, Ariely shows that we can make better decisions in business, in matters of collective welfare, and in our everyday lives from drinking coffee to losing weight, buying a car to choosing a romantic partner. profisatz
Bianca Buhmann profisatz — This was a fun, quick read that I enjoyed. This is a good "brain-candy" book. I will read at least the next book. I really liked the character of David and I hope he gets developed more. The hero-Tally-was not someone I particularly enjoyed however. Perhaps she just wasn't developed enough. I did like her personal struggles coming to grips with the truth she had been denied throughout her whole life. When a whole world of new thought is opened up to a person that's an amazing process. I enjoy futuristic books, it gives me pause to think about our current society. There are a lot of good lessons for you to gleam from it, however there are some not so good ones as well. I'm having a hard time understanding why any of these books are teen-lit. This one, while much tamer in morals than other teen-lit books, was still over the edge for me. Meaning, why are we letting our youth read these books???? There was also a naturalists agenda being pushed by the author. If a youth reads this I believe it should be discussed with a parent... I also found this book so choppy! The story didn't flow smoothly is some parts. I feel like I read the last version before the editor got a hold of it. I still enjoyed it though and the concepts are worth exploring with others. Much to talk about.

ihexy
Nikolay Astrakhantsev ihexy — After reading Inkheart, Inkspell was by no means a disappointment. The characters really seem to be developing themselves and Ms. Funke's plots are as twisting as they are enchanting.[return][return]By the end of the book, though, I was completely heartbroken. If you're a fan of happy endings, you may wish to stick with Inkheart and not move further. [return][return]It's definitely set itself apart in youth fiction for me...Very impressed![return][return](And nothing has been said before about this - but the illustrations throughout the book are part of the charm!)

Fábio Arman real_fabioarman — I think I may come back to the rating I gave Captivate later and feel bad about it, but my initial reaction is that I didn't want to continue reading after IT happened. And then Zara went and did THAT and I don't think she has though this through at all and I loved Need but Captivate really bothered me from about midway through. I don't really want to read Entice because of what happened.
