Shelita Peoples litap — If you ever wondered how certain social movements got started and what their impact was on a global level then author, Clay Shirky, explains in his book how those movements were started with the help of a few new online social tools. The use of new social media tools allows individuals to be able to pull together other people of similar interest, not within days or months but, now in minutes or even hours. New social movements are able to create change at a faster rate then what used to take months to happen. Before Twitter, Facebook, Meetup, Myspace, etc, came about, if anyone wanted to get someone elected or get a company to change something about a product, they had to set up a lobbying business or organization and recruit people of similar tastes and concerns. The transaction costs involved were enormous because of printing flyers and using people's time but now you can set up a group online and within minutes you have a group of able willing individuals interested in doing the same thing, which companies or congressman can not ignore. These lower social costs and transaction costs have helped start social revolutions, forced companies to change their practices and products and even created change in religious organizations. The author explains that in order for these efforts to come about, you need three rules, and those rules are a Promise of what your service offers, the social tools your service provides and a bargin, in knowing that what you like about this service won't change without the groups approval. All these new social tools have brought a new form of behavior to soceity that has never been exposed before on a global level. This book goes into detail about how to use those social tools to your benefit, either good or bad, and to understand where the world is going with these changes.

Kaitlyn Grieszmer grieszmer — I enjoy Lisa See's books. They aren't complicated or tedious - enjoyable to read. This one provided an interesting perspective of sisters growing up pre WWII in Shanghai and their transitions to the US/LA area during and after the war. A good read!

Zlyoo1 Zlyoo1 zlyoo1 — I love this book so very, very much. A retelling of Beauty and the Beast-- thoughtful, and elegant. Beauty gets to grow and transform, not just the Beast. I almost, almost, don't mind that the Beast doesn't stay a Beast-- which always bugged me about the original fairy tale, really.

shangdianhe
Julien Sean shangdianhe — This is a book that encourages deep thinking; it's impossible to not put yourself in the position of the main characters. The book's set in modern day Stockholm when madly oppressive weather is broken by a huge electrical storm after which the recently dead come back to life again. As horrific as this sounds it's not a zombie book, the re-animated dead don't want brains, they just shuffle back to where their lives left off. And it's dealing with this that gives the book its title; imagine your horribly ill grandad has finally shuffled off this mortal coil and in doing so has finally got peace, and suddenly you've got to deal with him sat back in front of the telly in the lounge. I'm not going to reveal the storylines here, and, from memory, there are four, each told about a different resurection, a different death, a different family's grief and sorrow that what's come back is nothing like what was lost. There's also trouble as the authorities have to deal with the hygiene aspects of deteriorating dead while the bereaved can't handle seeing the dead treated as a problem that has to be got rid of. If you've read Lindqvist's 'Let The Right One In' you'll already know that he can paint a chilling scene with words, that he writes characters you'll like, dislike and not give a toss about in equal measure, and that if you wanted a happy ending he saw you coming, and decided to spoil your day anyway.
