Small Move, Big Change Whether trying to lose weight, save money, get organised, or get a promotion at work, we're always setting goals and making resolutions, but rarely following through on them. According to Caroline Arnold, the 'big push' strategy of setting New Year's resolutions is ultimately designed to fail, because it relies on our limited willpower battling against our autopilot behaviours and attitudes, which are far more powerful. To permanently change ourselves, we need to focus our self-control on small and achievable steps, microresolutions, towards a big change in our life. Small Move, Big Change is Arnold's guide to turning broad personal goals into meaningful and discrete behavioural changes that lead to permanent improvement. Backed up by real-world examples and new scientific findings, she shows us that while the traditional resolution promises rewards on a distant 'someday', microresolutions work because they reward us today by instantly altering our routines and, ultimately, ourselves. syahidahnorsarimi
Syahidahnor Sarimi syahidahnorsarimi — I stumbled upon this novel in advisory and was slightly discouraged when I saw how long it was. But after reading the blurb and a look at the cover, I thought it would be an easy read. As I flipped through the novel, I saw that it was written in journal entries which I thought was very interesting. And from the cover, I got the vibe it was a comedic story, which I don’t usually read. I thought I could give it a try and I really liked it. This novel tells the story of a young boy by the name of John Milton who describes his first year at a boarding school in South Africa, during the apartheid. van de Ruit combines a story of a typical school, a young boy who hasn’t gone through puberty (therefore given the nickname Spud) and social issues in Africa to share a universal story of struggle. His decision to tell the story through journal entries allows for the reader to create a close-knit relationship with John Milton while still understanding everything else that is going on. In reading the story I realized that John’s struggles to fit in and the struggles individuals faced during the apartheid all relate to a bigger picture which is that of struggle. Everyone undergoes some kind of struggle in their life ranging in severity. That was something I could relate to as well as John’s character. John is a witty, outgoing kid who is trying to become cooler by being on good terms with The Crazy Eights (boys in his dorm). I feel as though there have been times where I’ve tried to fit in (middle school) but as I mature, I have learned how to accept my individuality. Although it was a long read, I don’t regret it one bit. This is a truly intriguing novel and anyone who likes an interesting story which intertwines information about the apartheid in Africa, would enjoy it.

Henrry Luis henryns9bd5 — ** spoiler alert ** This is a book I won in a Goodreads giveaway. I am certainly glad I did because I would not have sought out this book on my own. It is a good story about a 2 boys from completly different cultures coming togther and falling in love for the first time. The thing that is so great about this book is that it is written from a 13 year old boys perspective. It shows the coming of age emotions and feelings. I am a grown, straight, white woman, with nothing in common with the main character, yet I relate with the characters experiences and emotions. I apreciate the love and devotion he has to his friend and the tender moments they share. It brought me back to my own experience with my first love as a teen and the inner conflict with craving independence from my parents while still really knowing I was a child.

Angela H angelalahec363 — I did not have very high hopes for this book because I wasn't a huge fan of either Payne or Manny. It was okay. It had a little too much Vishous. I am also not a huge fan of "hospital bed" love books. So overall I liked it because it was a Brotherhood book and JR Ward. It is my favorite....no.
