Filip Jakobsen filipljakobsen3b14 — Really a great read, well-written, concise, and spot-on. Bageant grew up in the rural south (Winchester, Virginia) and knows from rednecks. He's not disingenuous at all, not a snobbish elite looking outside-in. He wants to love these people, like his brother, who's a pastor still living in the town he grew up in, or the mooks in the dive bar where he shoots the bull. In the book, he goes back to find that what the world knows as squabbling Scots-Irish white trash has gotten dumber, fatter, and deeper in debt. And boy do they loves them some Jesus. Each of the book's chapters deals with one particular aspect of rural poverty or red-state politics; the chapter on mortgage debt is really painful to read. (Especially after having just seen the documentary "Maxed Out.") One predatory lender claims that he can "get a ham sandwich a loan if it has a dollar to make a downpayment." I find his chapter on gun ownership to be extremely sympathetic. Almost everyone there owns a gun, most of them still have heirloom guns that their families used to hunt with. And the majority of them still hunt, and no one owns handguns. Another great quote: "Handguns are for pussies." Why would some big-city elitist want to take that away? Damn right. And then, of course, there's the Millenialist/End-Times/Charismatic Christianity. If you can stomach that chapter ...

Zef Fugaz zef — This book is from the Heartsong Presents historical series, sweet historical romances in various settings with an inspirational theme. This particular book is set during the voyage of the Titanic in 1912. When Annabelle Moorland's mother died, her father decided to take his daughter and spend some time in England with relatives, away from painful memories in America of his dead wife. But they stay longer in England than intended, and eight years pass before Annabelle and her father board the Titanic on it's maiden voyage to America, returing home at last. But Annabelle is shocked when she encounters Lawrence Caldwell on board the ship. In England, Lawrence was Annabelle's childhood love, but she never expected him to return her feelings because he was six years older. Seeing him again only reminds her of that. But shockingly, Lawrence now seems romantically interested in Annabelle, now that she has grown up. But misunderstandings seem to keep them from realizing that they are truly meant to be together. Will they realize their love in time, before tragedy strikes? This was a pretty good sweet historical romance set during the tragic voyage of the Titanic, although I did find it a bit hard to get into at first. The author did a good job of bringing to life the Titanic and its passengers, with many appearances by real people who sailed on the ship. Readers who enjoy romances and who have an interest in the Titanic will most likely enjoy this book.

Masood Rizvi _reamography — The story of Easy Company told through another voice. Not quite as in depth as Dick Winters autobiography but still nice to hear some new stories. It amazes me still that this group of guys were able to make it through the Battle of the Bulge as well as they did. Granted they probably couldn't forget it either. Very easy reading for a quick read, read it in a day. Would recommend it to those who want to complete their library of easy company soldiers.
