Jorge Torres _orge_orres_ — I enjoyed all of the stories about the circus life. I suspect that was facilitated by my lack of experience with or knowledge of the setting. I like that Sara Gruen describes things by induction. (e.g., describing consequences or collateral indicators, rather than directly stating things.) However... she overreached by choosing a male protagonist. Why is this bad? Because she, nonetheless, makes her character's perspectives on sex and romance, at least, incredibly non-male.

Opinia 360 _pinia360 — I read Twilight because so many of my friends had, and everyone told me it was such a great story. Personally, I was sorely disappointed. One friend convinced me that the rest of the series was much better than its rocky beginning. She was right. New Moon is a better book than its predecessor. While I am still not fond of Bella Swan, I have developed an affection for her best friend Jacob Black. I particulary enjoyed the chapter titled Paris. If Edward is Romeo, and Bella is Juliet, then Jacob Black is definitely Paris- the suitor who loves Juliet but cannot win due to her undying love for Romeo. In that chapter, Bella wonders what would have happened if Juliet had "settled" for a man of whom she was fond, but didn't love. She wonders if she might find happiness again; maybe not the soul-blazing love she had for Edward, but another kind of love with Jacob. But then a crisis emerges, and Bella flies to save Edward from destruction, leaving Jacob and his friendship behind. Can Bella reconcile her love for both vampire and werewolf? I'll have to find out in Eclipse.

Irene Navarro irenens — Love to see they can grow up well after making some very public mistakes. Thank God we are not all subject to that level of scrutiny.

Fhavio Fhavio afhavio17af2e — this is a great book. weschler is at his best in this sort of presentation: essays of variable length on pet topics that also somehow explore other pet topics (see also his phenomenal "everything that rises"). if you happen to be entranced by all things balkan (like myself), this book has the added bonus of dwelling often on post-yugoslavia issues and history. if you happen to be an artist or interested in the arts (like myself), this book has the added bonus of several extraordinarily compelling looks at the work of some artists from a decidedly atypical type of biographical angle. also included are some other biographies and a whole range of random short essays that behave on the whole like those in "everything that rises" -- truly random tiny glimpses at enough subjects and topics to give the reader a palpable sense of actively learning something about our world and the people in it. i love weschler's work; this is one of his best.
