Dubraska Santos _ubraska — Another favorite. A quirky book about a city girl who goes to live with her country relatives, in the 1920's. Absolutely hilarious.

Alexander Sutulov alexandersutulov — 'The Imperial Russian Air Service', by Darcey, Durkota and Kulikov, 1995. The very neglected subject of early Russian aviation is superbly documented by the prestigious Flying Machines Press. The book is filled with rare photographs and engineering drawings of prototype weapons and aircraft. One of the most fascinating chapters is that of Russia's first female pilots. The story of the young and beautiful Princess Shakhovskaya, the world's first woman combat pilot, reads like a tragic Tolstoy novel. Czar Nicholas II, amused by her perseverance, grants her permission to fly reconnaissance missions at the front. She becomes involved in numerous liaisons with several officers and is later accused of giving information to the Germans. She is sentenced to death by firing squad. There are few happy endings in Russia's long cruel history. Flying Machine Press is one of the premier publishing houses for scholarly aviation historic works. 'The Imperial Russian Air Service' will not disappoint. Highly recommended.

Mani Emad maniemad — Fantastic book.

Oscar Davila _en_avila — I just wan't feeling it, y'know? No connection to the characters at all, or the narrator's voice... I might have finished it if I had the time, but I just don't, what with all the other books I have to cram in before exams. Ah, well.

Emmeline Mcilvain emmelinebeal — It starts out slow and confusing. You are presented with a network of slaves and owners in the South, with new names coming up every couple pages. After a hundred pages or so, it starts to focus more and by then end (when the stories all start to make sense and link together), you start to realize the book's genius. If you have ADD, don't read it. One more thing: the author has a method of hooking the reader in by giving the reader a glimpse of something exciting that will happen in the future. Jones will tell a simple story about a man walking on the road and say at the end, "If he only knew that the next time he would be walking on that road, it would be moments before his own death." Something like that. Makes it exciting to read.
