This was just a tiny little novel, but just packed with stuff I love. Individual characters, compelling and interesting, but also embodying different political dogmas, the plot itself so packed with inherent symbolism that it shouldn't have been so light and natural. All coming together in a clean fast believable push through another world with the goal of freedom. It was beautiful.

I didn't really care for the Illiad, at least not the way I liked the Oddessy or even the Aneid. There was too much "battle", and in typical ancient style, it was described in ridiculously fanatical detail including the darned lineage of every last person... maybe that was interesting 2500 years ago, but not to me...

This book was typical Picoult...multiple narrators, some sort of moral dilemma, and engaging plotline. This was not one of my faves...I think I"m just getting too used to her formula. I did learn a lot about osteogenesis imperfecta (brittle bone disease), but I wasn't as torn about this moral dilemma like I normally am. Plus, Picoult is known for her twist endings. This one really made me mad/depressed. For Picoult fans, it's still worth reading, but know it's not her best by any means.

The author is a whining publicity artist masquerading as a journalist. He clearly has no experience in investigative journalism and is more concerned with his absurd version of 'conventional wisdom' than truth or accuracy. The fact he got a second book shocks me completely.

A quick, entertaining read.

Yet another extension to the Terminator universe. Art and writing was pretty good. The Terminator universe is a multiple-worlds universe - so every time someone time-travels, the timeline splits - so it can be a bit confusing. This one extends the original Terminator universe with Kyle Reese not exactly dying.

http://christianbookshelfreviews.blog... Smitten was such a fun and enjoyable read! The four individual stories (Natalie: Birthday Wishes; Julia: Small Town, Big Dreams; Shelby: You’ve Got a Friend; and Reese: All Along) that made up the book flowed wonderfully together and I loved each one of them. The characters in Smitten were great - I liked pretty much all of the main characters. While it did take me a few chapters to get completely into the story, once I did, it seemed that as the book progressed, I continued to like the story more and more! I don’t really know which one of the four stories was my favorite (they were all great!), but I especially loved the last one. =) With a great ending, Smitten leaves me very much looking forward to Secretly Smitten which is set to release this December. I definitely recommend Smitten if you enjoy romance novels - I think it is unique and a great read! *I received a complimentary copy of this book for my review. I was not required to give a positive review, only my honest opinion – which I’ve done. All thoughts and opinions expressed are my own.* Was my review helpful? If so, please click "yes" on Amazon. Thanks! =)

I remember I liked it at the time. The "time" being the winter of 1987.
Come, let us be honest with each other - or, okay, let me be honest with you. I read this book once, at full-tilt, couldn't-put-it-down, pry-it-from-my-dead-hands speed, almost twenty years ago. I spent an afternoon, evening, and part of a night reading it. And then I could never read it again. Mostly, that was because it terrified me: it seemed so grimly possible. Partly, that was because this one of my early exposures to books about women and women's issues, and it hit me like a punch to the gut. And partly, that was because - it's hard to explain, but, okay, look. I read this like I had a compulsion to get through it, like I was under a geas or something. I'm not sure the reading experience was fun, but it felt somehow necessary, and I've never been sorry I read it. But I have no desire at all to repeat the experience. No matter what Atwood herself would say (she, uh, believes she's too good for science fiction, which makes me giggle all night long), this is solid, excellent near-future dystopic SF. And I won't spoil it for the eight people in the world who haven't read it, except to say that if you already fear religious extremists, this will haunt your dreams. And if you don't fear them, well, after this, maybe you will. Recommended for: people who are interested in dystopic SF, women's issues, religious extremism, or terrifyingly possible near futures. Not recommended for: anyone who might take this as a how-to manual. Seriously. Difficult enough to deal with when it's fiction, thanks.

This is a fascinating tale, and a great book to discuss. Henrietta Lacks was born in Central Virginia in 1920 and died in Baltimore when she was 31, leaving a husband and 5 children. What she didn't know she left behind were pieces of the tumor her doctor removed which were then shared with another doctor, who cultivated them and - voila - HeLa cells were discovered. (If you've never heard of HeLa, ask anyone you know in the medical profession ... anyone.) This was an undertaking by a previously unknown author, who spent years and her student-loan money to research and write this story. It is also a sad footnote in history of what happens when society turns its back on a segment of the population, how they survive just beyond our line of site - unknown, unrecognizable to us - until we are forced to take a look. Skloot forces us to look, and what she finds isn't always pretty.
quizás el mejor libro que he leído ... realmente no sé qué decir al respecto.
First Belva Plain book I've read ... it wasn't horrible, but it certainly wasn't great. I will try another book by her, just to see if she can do better.
