I liked parts of this book but I got bored by the end and didn't quite finish it. Started to get a bit dry. It's a series of short stories about life in Paris from the point of view of a American/Canadian couple with a small child. Some stories I liked, some I didn't.

Wow. What I learned from this book? This is a messed up, depressing, creepy tale of a poor unfortunate gay boy who gets fucked over by many men (very literally). Good read, good read.

Only Atwood I've read but really enjoyed it. Writing is excellent with smart plot structures and branches of stories that all challenge you to stick to it and come out sighing for more. (thanks hh, finally, i read it)

I like most of DeMille's stuff including the Charm School; except the interplay between Hollis and Lisa seems like a couple of star struck teens. I force myself to continue reading knowing better things await.

I really like Harlen Coben and blazed through this book in just 2 days but I have to say it was not AS good as some of his others, it had a bit of a different style. But it covered an interesting topic...I won't spoil. A good easy, beach read.

Borrowed this from Ron ages ago...finally have time to pick it up. So far it provides a (mostly) sympathetic view of the sociological and psychological aspects of FDR's relationships with the women in his life. Enjoyed this book thoroughly. The focus was not on the question of sexual liasons, but rather on the aspects of FDR's personality (and of the women important to him) that required female companionship and adulation. The parallels with other men of power were quite obvious. In another time, the press would not have been so willing to ignore these activities. His blase approach to "state secrets" and other security issues would make today's Secret Service cringe. As an admirer of Eleanor, I found her depicted honestly and not without sympathy. She just couldn't sit back and perform as the "good wife" after she learned of his continued infidelity. Good for you, Eleanor!

I liked it but would be interested to know if the situation still exists...

I think it helps if you are a Hemmingway fan, but probably don't need to be to really enjoy the book. The author does a good job of humanizing the character of Hemmingway, and it provides a unique perspective. Even though you know what's going to happen, you can't stop yourself!
