I entirelly appreciate Pope Benedict XVI and I'm sure this is great book but I found it hard to digest. It's heavy. I think I read it too quick aswell. Some passages are great others I feel he's focused on dialoging with theologians, which is fine. It helps anyone who reads it but take it bit by bit otherwise you will question your own intellectual capacity after 50 pages.

I had my doubts about how much I'd like this book, having no luck with several Stephen Hawkings books describing the universe. But I was pleasantly surprised with Mike Brown's story. There's a good blend of the scientific work that went into his discoveries, and the human side of his, and his family life. The astronomy descriptions are written in everyday terms, no pretences, and very easy to comprehend. And his personal stories are human and often humorous. People with a scientist or engineer in their family might associate with some of his stories, especially how he sought to graph and analyze his newborn's daily habits. But most important of all for me, the book did provide all the definitive reasons for the disappearance of Pluto from the New York's Hayden Planetarium, and in an enjoyable way.

I can't actually say that I enjoyed this book. It's a story about a father and son who struggle for survival in the ruins of some great cataclism. Now don't get me wrong - the novel is truly brilliant. It's powerful and insightful. It's also depressing as anything I've ever read. McCarthy creates such a sense of desolation and ominous foreboding that it seems anything is possible (except a happy ending). I suppose that before I became a father myself I might have enjoyed The Road. As it is, I seriously considered not even finishing the book.
