A very interesting story, but the writing wasn't all that great. I may not have noticed the awkward moments as much if I had read the book, rather than listening to the audio.
I love this book! I love poetry in general, but Shel Silverstein has really mastered the art of witty, light-hearted rhyme. This entire book is full of different kinds of flowing rhymes, some that are meant for pure fun, some that might even make you think a little bit. Shel's poetry is the kind you repeat to yourself as you walk down the street, scrub your feet in the shower, make yourself toast...no matter what you do, a Silverstein poem will always stick with you. The meter of each poem is lyrical and catchy, the rhymes are exact to the "T." You run your finger down the far right side of any one of her works and at the end of every line there will be a word that precisely matches with the last word in the following line. Not too many people are too expert at this anymore, so Shel is definitely a favorite poet of mine, and always will be.

5 stars, this is the best angel series I have read. It was such an emotional book and I almost cried a few times. But the story was so good. I knew something bad was going to happen, but even with the sad stuff it was still a wonderfull and happy book. I really love the place where it all takes place. I know this sounds strange, but when I hear Clara describing the environment, I wish I could be there too. I really don't know how to start this review I am still so full of emotions after finishing it. It really is a great book. I love the story, it is so good and original. I really like the idea of angel-blood roaming the earth while trying to fullfill their purpose. This books gives us some more anshwers but also gives me more questions and I am really looking forward to reading the next book. This book is really emotional. Clara is going through so much and the whole book has a sense of foreboding, something bad is going ot happen. And something bad does happen, but all in all it still end with a positive note and I think everyhting plays out how it should. I was also surpised by all the unexpected twist and turns in the book. I love the unexpectedness of the story and how the book could surpise me. The characters. I really love the characters. All of them, I get the feeling I really know them and I like seeing how they interact. Just the way they react to things really gives me a sense of who they are. I also really like the main character, Clara and how she deals with everything. She is strong, but also has a very vulnerable side. She isn't a character who always knows what to do, she is confused most of the times and struggles to make the best of this. She really is a great lead character and I can't wait to read more about her. To conclude I really liked this book. It was very emotional. The story is very good and I really like the characters. I also love how the author describes the environment so good that I want to see it for myself.

A little better than your typical love story. The beginning started off slow and predictable, and the story seemed to drag in parts, but there were a couple surprises at the end, which was nice.

I thought this book would provide new insight into France, but all it did was bore me with shitty essays.

The first great history book. In addition, there are spectacular passages like the Melian Conference where the Athenian envoy states: For ourselves, we shall not trouble you with specious pretences- either of how we have a right to our empire because we overthrew the Mede, or are now attacking you because of wrong that you have done us- and make a long speech which would not be believed; and in return we hope that you, instead of thinking to influence us by saying that you did not join the Lacedaemonians, although their colonists, or that you have done us no wrong, will aim at what is feasible, holding in view the real sentiments of us both; since you know as well as we do that right, as the world goes, is only in question between equals in power, while the strong do what they canand the weak suffer what they must.
I first read this book in 8th Grade, and I thought it was beautiful. It has always been one of my absolute favorites. I could read it again and again.

A stupendous waste of time. To call John Carpenter's Z-grade movie dumb reflects poorly on the source, for stating what is already self-evident. Packaging the statement in a lengthy, pseudo-intellectual tract exhibits the precocity of a child. Must we analyze low-brow products as if they were subjects worthy of deep study? I think it is safe to say that John Carpenter and his actors and film crew did not set out to layer profundities into what is still cinema's longest street brawl (for nearly 9 minutes Rowdy Roddy Piper and keith David fight in an alley over sunglasses), and for all the satire presented by They Live, it follows a populist impulse like the 50's schlock that inspired it. Anybody with two brain cells to rub together can see this. I can glory in this kind of sci-fi trash and leave my intellectual illusions at the door. This book would have been justified, I think, nested in a larger study, or even, dare I say, as footnote to a compendium of essays on the period of John Carpenter's career when he made entertaining and inspiring films (Shepard Fairey's "OBEY" campaign from They Live, DJ Shadow's sampling of Prince of Darkness on his first release, to name but a couple). Let's not kid ourselves, as this book seems to think we should: Carpenter is not an intellectual pleasure. Many of his movies, however, are a joy to watch, and I'd much prefer to watch They Live than ever have to look at this book again.
