Lt. Eve Dallas of the New York Police and Security Department is called to the scene of a murder where it appears philanthropist Thomas Anders died during a kinky sexual encounter. Evidence suggests the victim was sedated at the time of his demise and a lapse in the security system’s recordings signifies this was not an accidental death. Eve quickly hones in on a suspect but can find nothing to connect the killer to Anders at the time he died. But this doesn’t stop the lieutenant, who uses everyone at her disposal, including husband billionaire Roarke, as she meticulously unravels the mystery being Anders’s death. This series attracts many fans, and for a good reason. Robb’s writing is tight, flows well, and she offers characters her fans have grown to love. The mystery is a good one, with plenty of twists and turns, and, as always, Eve Dallas’s intense personality and mindset pull the reader along with her as she seeks to resolve a mystery she takes personally.

This was an absolutely delightful book about (as the title says) four sisters and the young boy they meet on their summer vacation. The story (and the series itself) sort of reads as a more modern version of the Ballet Shoes by Noel Streatfield (if anyone remembers reading those as a child). The sisters, Rosalind, Skye, Jane, and Batty, are a fun mix of personalities: Rosalind, the oldest at 12, tries desperately to take care of her younger sisters, as she promised at her mother's deathbed. Skye is the tomboy of the family, Jane the dreamer, and Batty an independent minded four-year-old. There's nothing profound about the story, but the misadventures of the family are wonderfully and simply told. This would be a great book for reading aloud with younger children (probably around 6 or 7 and up).
Loved her writing style-she's funny...got a little slower in the middle section when she is in India but picked up the plot again in Indonesia. Many of us can relate to her struggles.

I picked this one up on a lark and really enjoyed it. The story centers around a German private detective who is living through the Nazi uprising in Berlin and subsequent war. The story begins prior to the war and our hero, Gunther, has yet to be called to arms. Gunther is an outspoken anti- Nazi, but he is forced to join Hitler's war effort or face death. Up to this point I was getting a fast talking flat foot vibe from the text. But once the story folded over to the post war the context became much more noir. Kerr has clearly done his research into the Nazi up-rising and it shows. I have fact checked a few points out of interest and his information was dead on. Overall, I really enjoyed this book. So much so that I'm currently reading Kerr's follow up Bernie Gunther novel "A Quiet Flame". If you're into noir detective thrillers this one is worth the read.
