this book was very odd. I would love to discuss it with someone if anyone else has read it. The title explains nothing about it.

We're on a Wyndham mission in our house at the moment - Joe picked up a bunch of great 70s Penguin editions in the charity shop, and I started off with this one, realising I'd never read it before (you kind of expect to have already done so, because of its being so well known). One of the things I'd say was most interesting about it is that on one level it's a novel about the media - about how incidents are reported and how the public respond to them. The hero and heroine are broadcast journalists, so we're pulled into sharing their concerns not only with what happens but how it's then covered - or not covered, ignored, exaggerated, underestimated, etc. This adds a kind of weird moral ambiguity to the story, as we're encouraged to sympathise with these two characters (and they are presented as the best kind of 1950s morally upstanding British journalists), but also to be aware that they're not just engaged in reporting 'the truth'; it's very clear that they have a very particular angle, and that, towards the end of the book, they're concerned with pacifying the public as much as anything else. Aside from that, it's just a cracking good read, and written in that enviable Wyndham style where everyone talks in proper sentences and drinks sherry while discussing underwater atom bombs. The scene where the things first come out of the sea is proper nasty, too.

About a young woman who has everything she could really want or need yet is still unhappy. A story told in Paulo Coelho's style, which I happen to like, about how her mind becomes free and she she becomes unafraid to afraid to take chances and live life to the fullest. This book is one of my top 3 favorites. It empowers me every time I read it.

i read this book years ago but still sometimes think about it. i'm currently reading "a million little pieces" by james frey, but my mind just keeps going back to this augusten burroughs book, which i found more engaging a read. the scene in which augusten examines his apartment and takes out the many bags of trash just blew my mind. it's a reality check not often disclosed in anecdotes of recovery from substance abuse.

Yay, done with this series of books. Interesting twists and turns, although, kind of predictable at points. Has added a lot of discussion between my daughter and I. I think that is the best part of the series. Can't wait till daughter finishes to see what she thought of the ending.

The beginning of this book was fantastic. I loved first seeing it through Cassie's eyes and then through Calder's eyes. About halfway through it got on my nerves a little bit. She was afraid he wouldn't want her and visa versa for many chapters. I wanted to say "Enough already. You're going to get together in the end and all of this 'Why would he like me?' and 'She's going to break up with me' is getting on my nerves." The end really is good, but I think that she could have ended the story more in the middle and I would have left with a better opinion of this book. If I were to read it again I'd just read the beginning because really it was a lot of fun! If you like Pride & Prejudice you'll like this one, just beware of the last half.

One of Heinlein's lesser known works, though it did win the Hugo. Like most of his work it comes with a social message. In this case, the people of the moon, being unfairly taxed and placed under the heavy burden of mother earth, decide to rebel and claim their freedom and independance. The parallels to an earlier revolution are obvious, Tom Paine would have been proud. All in all, not a bad story at all, if one can stomach the none too subtle social preaching. Definitely a bit too dramatic for my taste, but then again when speaking and writing of revolution, there is hardly a middle road is there? Viva la revolucion!

A little more far fetched than some of the other books, but still some interesting theories.

4.5 Stars.*Do not read the synopsis if you have not read the previous book Lover Unbound, it contains spoilers* You may have noticed that the books in this series are getting longer, this book is the first one to have made me actually notice the length. Phury's character frustrated me a bit, as did Cormia's character. They like each other but can't seem to communicate that until the very end. Since Phury is the primale and Cormia is a Chosen they are in what you would call an arranged marriage. He was supposed to "take" her during a ceremony but he uncovers her face and sees that she is crying and very scared, so he releases her and does not complete the mating. He brings her back to the mansion where the Brotherhood resides and lets her do whatever she wants. They don't talk much and only see each other at meals. Phury believes himself to be in love with his twin brother's pregnant shellan or mate and his drug habits are spiraling out of control. I don't usually speak about the other characters in my reviews since their story comes up in a later book, but I have to say hat John Matthew is one of my favorite characters in this whole series so far. I can't wait to read his story in Lover Mine (#8). The ending was very sweet and very exciting. The war with the Lessers is getting intense and has taken a new turn.

This was in the YA section of the library but I think it should be in a younger section. It is about 14 year old Princess Esmeralda who, in trying to escape her mother's matchmaking with Prince Jorge, flees to a swamp. There she meets Prince Eadric, a talking frog who begs her to kiss him so he will turn back human. I thought the book was too silly but think that young teenagers or pre-teens would enjoy it. I didn't find anything objectionable. Prince Eadric is always begging to be kissed, though. There are 2 other books in the series.
