This is my favorite book. Harpo Marx led a richful life, journeying from a poor Jewish neighborhood in NYC to dingy hotels on the American Vaudeville circuit to the lush and affluent cabanas of Hollywood, with stops all over the world in between. Known to us as the silent clown of the Marx Brothers, he speaks in this book with a joyful passion and innocence that makes you want to befriend and applaud his every word. I cried and laughed out loud several times throughout, and since reading it I have encouraged everyone I know to do the same.

It never occurred to me that Penn Jillette was an amazingly talented author prior to reading this book. I had seen him on a few episodes of Bull Shit! and was astounded at his sense of humor and ability to carry his thoughts and feelings. He is brilliant, composed, knows exactly what he wants to say. It could be completely irrelevant to your thoughts and you may disagree but he is bloody brilliant. Most indeed worth the time, if you can swallow his crass, disturbing and overtly explicit style. Personally it is right up my alley. READ IT!

Meh, was not too impressed. I found this book ridonkulously hard to get into; eventually it picked up and finally pique my interest (last 60 pages or so), but it was too little too late.

All of you Jim Butcher fans, definitely check out this new author. This is the second book in the series and features a rather infamous bar in Chicago (Jim Butcher-approved of course). The action is fast, the characters are memorable and I can't wait to read more.

In this book, Montalbano, who lives in a house on the beach finds a dead horse in front of his home. Worse, the horse appears to have been murdered brutally. After making a cursory inspection, when Montalbano goes to get his officers out so they can make a thorough investigation, the carcass disappears.In the next couple of days 2 people file police reports about missing horses - one is a famous equestrian Rachel Esterman, and the second is one of the richest men in Italy Saverio Lo Duca. Then, as Montalbano ponders the mystery, his home is broken into. Not much is taken, so Montalbano realises that this is a warning; (and to put it pun-nily)someone desperately wants him off the horse's tail . . . Montalbano is also quick-thinking and wily, and the reason why I would read the other books in the series. The events in this book move fast, and the almost benign mystery of two missing horses turns into something more sinister as Montalbano gets deeper into his investigation. The translation has some peculiar turns of phrase (eg. setting fire to a cigarette) but the flavor of the original book and it's feisty people comes through even in this. I quite enjoyed "The track of sand". Full review, here.

thoroughly enjoyed this book from start to finish. short chapters helped too, but the story was well constructed. From setting up the main character Piet to be a police informant to getting him into the prison to take down a major drug cartel, I was totally into it. So far I have enjoyed the Swedish books that I have read. I might try more from these authors.

This novel was somewhat a disappointment after reading its wonderful predecessor, "Matched". I always enjoy dystopian stories because I love fantasy. I love learning about the way these fictional cultures work, who is in charge, how the citizens react with one another, and eventually how the protagonists break through the binds. "Matched" was interesting and fun to read because it detailed a rich and imaginative culture in a place called Oria, where a young girl named Cassia is forced to choose between her given "Match" and the boy she feels she belongs with. I loved the conflicts of the first book and the mystery surrounding Ky, the boy she is forbidden to love. It filled my need for a dystopian novel from the point of view of a girl my age. But I was left bored and unsatisfied with "Crossed". I was waiting for intense conflict and escape after Cassia is basically sentenced to die by her own Officers. But the book sort of reminded me of "Lord of the Rings"- a lot of walking, a lot of mountains and rivers, some new characters, but very little action. I found the new characters Vick, Eli, and Hunter a little dull, and even the new girl Indie left me wanting more. There were just more and more realizations and dreams and hopes and maps and nothing really happened. I also did not care for the new POV chapters with Ky. I feel like this is Cassia's story, and Ky should be a part of it, not the storyteller. This wasn't a terrible book, but it was an anticlimactic sequel. Good news is that the end was really promising, so the next book in the series is bound to be better. I'll keep reading!

Loved it! The series really does keep getting better. I could hardly put it down. I totally should have seen the surprise at the end coming, but I didn't. I love that! Can't wait for the next one, but sad to see it end!
