Apparently, it's meticulously researched, although some people really take issue with Woodward's characterization of Belushi. I liked the level of detail, even if toward the end, it started reading like a Smoking Gun dossier. Now, this book was like a dream come true for me, in theory: drug addiction, real-life assholes (including Bill Murray! and Chevy Chase!), Hollywood goings-on, Chateau Marmont bungalows, Robert DeNiro going apeshit for heroin!, seedy folks plying Belushi with blow. And I am totally the kind of person who goes nuts over tidbits like, "That girl he's hanging out with toward the end? That is totally Richard Dreyfuss' ex-wife. The one with lupus who was in 'Last House on the Left.'" And Woodward's depiction of those final days is just so vivid. You can imagine what the bungalow smelled like, what Belushi looked like, and how horribly pathetic junkies turn out to be. But, you know what? I had one big stumbling block with this book: I really hated Belushi. Just couldn't stand the guy, the way he treated people, the way he has somehow been lionized as this tragic, sweaty teddy bear or whatever. Give me a break. He treated everyone like shit, especially those poor gals on Saturday Night Live (he didn't believe women could be funny. At all.) This is charming? I know many of his peers thought he was endearing and infinitely talented and a comic genius who could have achieved so much more. The talent part is true. He was hilarious, at times. But the guy, judging from this book, was a complete asshole. I mean, how annoying is some rich fat TV comedian who goes from being a Blues Brother one second to stalking around in a leather jacket snorting drug after drug, all the while demanding a punk rock soundtrack for some stupid movie about wine he insists on doing and busting everyone's balls about how they are not "real?" So, I can't love this book. No matter how much dirt it fed me. I just wanted Belushi to die. And he did, so at least there was a happy ending.

pretty good book, though not a favorite. I read a bunch of bad reviews about the ending before i actually finished it so i was anticipating worse. i think i kind of understand what the author tried to do at the end, but honestly if i had one chance to come back to earth after death, i would have used my time differently...i DID, however really appreciate the icicle coming back into the mix...

This is the most interesting take on a love story. Well, maybe not the MOST interesting, but the A.D.D. of the romance is definitely original. The plot, while I can't say it's fantastic is pretty fun. There is "role reversal," but not in the way it's usually portrayed. The characters are also very fun and you feel like you're a part of their world. This romance manga is different from others in the sense of it's not about supernatural beings and it's not in a high school setting. It's in the modern day real world and may be less interesting to some specifically because of that. It did not stop me from thoroughly enjoying it. The main character, Choko Kuze, is a bit of a ditz sometimes, but she's not stupid and is not helpless, although there are some situations in which Masayuki, the male love interest, does have to step in and save her. For some reason, I am at a loss for words. This is another great romance manga and there is little I can say without giving too much away and anyone who's interested will just have to pick this book up and find out for themselves.

I can only seem to read Stephen Fry in a deck chair or on vacation, which I think qualifies his work as light reading. That said, it's usually pretty good light reading.
Nice reading. Slow pace, however not boringly so. I like this author.

i read this because everyone else was reading it. here are some things i realized: joan didion lived a glamorous life, in the way that i'd like to live glamorously, but i don't think i'd like her if i met her. her style is absorbing, and i read this mostly in one sitting, but something about it also pushed me away. it's that mixture of openness - she's describing intensely personal feelings - and distance, and i'm not sure if that's just the nature of the subject she's writing about, if writing about grief demands distance and openness at the same time. maybe those who know her saw that same contradiction in her during that year, and she's just done a fantastic job of capturing her own emotions and her own presence. it was hard to read and hard to put down.
A great piece on faith and depression in light of Christianity. Really good.

I am not finishing this book. Now that I have switched English classes, I do not plan on reading this again. As you an see, my feelings for this book have not changed. Everyone says how they admire Thérése so much. I just don't get it. She is extremely full of herself, and she is always crying at every little thing. She seems really spoiled, and it drives me crazy. Even when she says that she "did it for Jesus" she is still obsessed with herself. I just don't know what people like about her. Ok. I do not like this book. Yet, I must read it. I continue to try and like it, but it is just not happening. I have to admit that reading the introduction (the first edition introduction) out loud is a little bit fun, but I am not really liking this book. I am reading this book for my English class, just my friend Madi and I. I have to say that I like how she used her mother's letters, it makes it sound less like bragging. And all of the details that she remembers are quite fascinating. All of the books that I have read this year for English have been true/based off a true story, which I find slightly intriguing. I would really love it if someone could actually convince me that this is an amazing book.
Another wonderful addition to the Hunger Games series. I still think Catching Fire is the best of three, but Mockingjay was great. I wasn't entirely satisfied with the ending, but it will do. Collins is willing to sacrifice beloved characters; I like that. No one really escapes unscathed. In general, I thought the Hunger Games trilogy was a well-timed commentary on the lengths people will go to for power. I'd call it a 4.5 star series.
