Some interesting points/stories in this book - a good read
I have plenty of admiration for this book but just didn't LIKE it that much. I sort of had to force myself through it, even while I could see how skillfully it was put together.
I remember The Glass Palace as infinitely better, but the Hungry Tide isn't bad. I think I enjoyed it because I understood the Bengali words used and I liked reading about Bangladesh. I thought the character development was surprisingly un-creative (is that word?) and the plot rather predictable.

I read the original series as a teen and quite enjoyed it. I, however, was disappointed in this "10 Years Later." I found that it jumped around far too much. There were too many holes. Sure, they got filled in throughout the the book, but it was hard to follow at times. I think it could have been better thought out, better planned. I hope that this is the end now, since it was far too hard to read. I might revisit the series eventually and read them again, but right now I'm disappointed enough that I took them off my Kindle.

Did you know that the Mona Lisa was stolen out of the Louvre in 1911 and that Picasso was a suspect in the investigation? I didn't, until I read this book. It weaves together information from various sources including old newspapers to tell the tale of Mona Lisa -- not just her theft, but other facts about the painting from its creation and creator to the people suspected of the crime and their lives to the political events happening at the time and the way journalism functioned back then. It's the kind of all-inclusive history that I find most enjoyable and enlightening. I've been reading a lot of fluff lately so I was really ready for a change to some non-fiction. Found the story of the theft of the Mona Lisa quite intriguing and educational. If I'd criticize anything about the novel, it might be the occasional repetition of certain points or facts. But overall a well-written and interesting tale. It also helped (in my mind) to explain how a beautiful painting turned into such a cultural icon. Want to see what the original colors of the painting might have looked like? This is pretty cool: http://www.lumiere-technology.com/Pag...

Excellent coming of age book that deals a lot with sibling relationships. Set in the past, so has the nice edge of historical while still being totally applicable.
