Maybe initially the reason I love this book is that I got it as a gift from my younger sister. And she wrote a lovely piece about me in the beginning of the book! But there is hardly any book that makes you laugh out loud, isn't it? As my knowledge lets me, most Iranian writings are moaning about poverty and misery, and more or less they have a heavy shadow of misery (chatsling?!). But this one, is so realistic and at the same time it takes out the fun of tough situation any immigrant might encounter. I just wish I can get the English copy to see 'still funny in English?!'

Re-reading for clues etc, in prep for the last book. Ahh, I love this series. It is light and fun yet with a deeper side and it feels so nice to read how it all began once again. My view of this first book is very different now that I know where it is going.

This was a cool way to write a book. Jeffery Deaver and a bunch of other writers got together and wrote this mystery book. Jeffery wrote the first chapter, then the next writer started where he left off,and so on, with Jeffery writing the last chapter. Pretty cool.

Another tale told through the eyes of a teen. Cute, although some of the plot was too coincidental I liked the dialogue enough to continue reading and enjoyed the book. love this author!

Wow! This book did more to help me think about how I want to raise my kids than anything I have ever read or maybe even heard. It also made me think a lot about my general attitude towards other people and choices I make. He argues for ditching time outs, punishments and praise. Intrigued? I found it an easy read.... It is helping me think about how to treat those I care about it a controlling way and instead to try to build relationships based on respect. I am also reading Non Violent Communication and the two have a lot in common, in my opinion. I also liked this book because it relies on research as well a limited number of stories from his own family and others to support his theses. I have always been uncomfortable with time outs, but this is first holistic approach to offer a different way to interact with kids. I was surprised also to come to understand the problem with praise. When thinking about the long-haul of raising kids, I plan to keep these principles in mind to help my kids develop as creative, compassionate happy people.

This is a beautiful, well written novel that revisits the town and some of the characters of Robinson's previously written novel, Gilead. The book consists mostly of dialogue that is rich and true to the speakers. The sheer beauty of the words on the page brought me to reread many paragraphs. Sometimes the words conveyed meaning that I simply did not see coming. The civility of life led by two elderly men, the expectation of their friendship, the tenuous yet hopeful relationships among family members, the changes in the political and cultural landscape of the mid 1950's - all were skillfully woven within this powerful book. Duty, love, forgiveness, redemption, and in the end, the acknowledgement and acceptance of who we are stand as just a few of the themes in what may be the best book I have read in a long time.
