She just runs on and on and on in this book. I was not thrilled with it at all.

An interesting read, I have to confess I was riveted at the end of the book. It is not an easy read by any means, and the language is complex and uses a lot of terms and phrases that are archaic today. I found it at times a bit of a slog at others I couldn't wait to see what happened. I loved the character of Tess she is a simple but complex character and out of time in some ways for when this novel was written. I'm not sorry I've had this on my to read list but in all honesty I don't think I can rate this any more than just I liked it. I certainly did not hate it but neither did I love it. A challenge for most readers and one that in the end I'm glad I have completed, and I am certainly left pondering and wanting to analyze the characters more.

Finished this over lunch today- sorry to see it end. Absolutely one of the best books ever! Like Pillars of the Earth- I was mesmerized from page one and stayed up too late too many nights. These two book should be required reading for everyone!

2 1/2 stars. Predictable, not suspenseful.

This was one of my favorite book I have ever read. Rather it be because it had vampires in it or what I can't truely say. I would recommend it to others.

Gah, I am so, so annoyed. Not at this book so much as I am at myself. You know those times in your life where, try as you might, there's basically NO time to read. And you realise and acknowledge that, but you won't accept it, so you try to read anyway. And you get in snippets, but this sporadic reading habit practically ruins the book you're reading, cause there's no continuity or flow. And this is literally the WORST book for it to happen to, given the writing style and timeline of events. GAH! I heard such amazing reviews about it, I even went to a ball that was themed around this book! Everyone I've talked to has either said it was their favourite book, or that it was simply amazing. And I went in expecting that, and wanting that, but I didn't get it. Don't get me wrong, I still enjoyed it, but it frustrates me to know that had I sat down and read it in one go, or through sustained sittings, I would've gotten so much more out of it. Boo. I loved the scenery and the vivid descriptions of the circus, but I wasn't invested enough to love any character. I found their relationships too forced as a result of my lack of emotional attachment, so anything that happened probably didn't have as much effect on me as it would have had on other readers. I have high respect for this author, and I loved the story in its ideas and plot, but the situation I read this book definitely didn't do it justice.

I'm not sure why this book wasn't good. I think it had something to do with all the unnecessarily big words the character used. It made him less sympathetic. The story itself was good and the idea was novel, but it just wasn't that likable.
