I know this is blasphemy, but the original source material far outshines Marlowe and Goethe's work. It's hard to find the collected German legends surrounding the real Doctor Faust, but it's so worth the effort.

If you have to choose between listening to or reading this book, READ it. The narrator on the audio version was horrible...flat, unemotional, etc. I think I would have enjoyed it more if I had read it. Overall, I thought the story was entertaining. I didn't see the twist at the end coming (what a revelation), although I'm not 100% sure how it was pulled off and nobody knew. I'll read the next book in the series, although I'm not invested enough in it to read it right now. Maybe six months down the road. (the second book has a different narrator too.)

I was disappointed in this book. It would build in excitement and then fizzle out. It ended that same way.

Okay, so I went through a brief occult phase. I blame Buffy The Vampire Slayer for this.

Color me a sucker for the gentleman thief in spite of my bone-deep conviction that most criminals are just too dumb to hold down a real job. So, when I have the chance to indulge in a bit of cat-burglar romance, I am there. And EM Lynley doesn't disappoint. She's given us a charming gentleman thief, and his former lover, now at odds over a gigantic emerald that is the centerpiece of a museum exhibition. Tobin has curated the exhibition and when he sees Pierce, his ex, he's certain the man is there to steal the fabulous emerald. Pierce, who works for a security company, insists he's only concerned with the security measures. Tobin doesn't believe him, and for good reason. He's seen and read enough about the thief known as "Jaguar" to be almost certain that Pierce and Jaguar are one and the same. Unfortunately, he's also had his heart stolen by Pierce, and when they're thrown together again, he can't help himself, he succumbs. There's plenty to like about this story; it's relatively light-hearted and easy on the angst (Not that I don't like angst, but sometimes a story just cries out for a lighter touch.) And it gives us that charming, debonair gentleman thief who is always so appealing. If I have any quibbles, they're small. First, I think the story is short enough that it would have been better served had Lynley stuck to a single POV. And then, there are moments when I wanted to whup both Tobin and Pierce upside the head for not talking about things. How many lovers' quarrels could be avoided if people would just discuss their problems? These aren't huge problems by any means, they just grate a bit. All in all, Emerald is the kind of romp I enjoy a great deal. Kudos to EM Lynley.
I learned that every surface in an airplane, from the fully-upright seatbacks to the stowed traytables, is tainted with human fecal matter.

I haven't read anything from this other until receiving Blood Of My Brother for review. Blood Of My Brother is actually the authors second novel. When I read the description on the book it sounded like a novel that I would enjoy. I love a good murder mystery, action packed book. I really enjoyed this book from the beginning to the end. The book had a great story line that pulls you in right from the start and keeps a hold of you tell the end. The characters in the story were easy to get to know and follow... Jay stopped at nothing to get Dan his best friend the justice he deserves. *I was provided a complementary copy of Blood of My Brother by the Author James LePore from an opportunity of Pump Up Your Book. I am an honest reviewer. My reviews are written by me and are based on my own opinion (I'm not a review expert).

Güzel yazılmış - kesişen yaşamların yörüngesini izler - ayrıcalık, bu ülkede belgelenmemiş bir göçmenin sert yaşamı. Sömürgeciliğin aileler üzerindeki etkileri, ilişkiler. Booker ödülünü kazandı.
