This book is eye-opening, to say the least. I had no idea just how bad the fast food corporations are and how bad some of the food that we eat is for us. The book also illuminates the far-reaching cultural, social, economic, and health consequences of the fast food chains and meatpacking industries, such as the horrendous working conditions, the probems caused for generations of farmers and workers, the direct link between the rise of fast food and obesity, and the frightening spread of epidemics like mad cow disease and salmonella. It's worth reading - written in a candid and engaging style, well-researched, and informative.

Very light, plot-driven read with shallow characters who are described in broad, trite terms. Dialogue between characters reads like the most boring small talk you've ever had. Skip this one.

** spoiler alert ** First: DON'T HURT THE PONIES, LITTLE GIRLS!!! Or I will sick a chimera or a dementor or something much worse on you. Second: I really hate it that this short story is so true to life that I can imagine little girls hurting each other's ponies or hurting their own for the sake of popularity. I really hate it. And, while I don't think the ways of girls and popularity will be changing anytime soon, I have to hope that the good will outweigh the bad. The sad thing is that I think they would be doing worse than maiming or killing each other's ponies in real life, though. . . Third: HOW COULD YOU HURT A PONY AGAIN? YOU MEAN, HEARTLESS LITTLE GIRLS!! Fourth: Sadly, ponies here are a good allegory for what girls -- no, scratch that -- what anyone would do for the sake of popularity, especially in the tumultuous time of adolescence. It's a bit like the 'if everyone else is doing it, then so should I' syndrome. In this short story, little girls 'fit in' by doing a initiation involving their beloved Ponies -- and the results are bloody. It will give you the heebie-jeebies to read it, but can you really deny that people can be this bloodthirsty about popularity in the real world? How do you think the term cut-throat came about? Don't be naive. But make sure to be better. Fifth: If you love ponies or animals in general, then maybe you should think twice about reading this. . . Sixth: If I lived in this crazy short story, I would want a Pony with weaponry (to defend itself) or an outrageous appearance where it would not be bothered by the other Ponies. Here's the perfect one for me: What? I like Edward Scissorhands! Seventh: All craziness and pony massacres aside, Ponies (which should have been subtitled Popularity Kills) needs to be read to be believed. The question: do you dare?

All I can say is that half the pleasure of reading Fforde's Thursday Next series is in ferreting out the myriad literary references slipped into the work. The fifth book in the series was no different in this respect, playing in fiction, poetry and the oral tradition. This was a really fun read that plays with Thursday as both an "outlander" and a member of Jurisfiction, the fictional version of Spec Ops (So27) policing the fictional world's woes, uncannily like and unlike the real world. Set 14 years after the last novel, we find Spec Ops disbanded, the England in a stupidity surplus, and Thursday's young son Friday the typical petulant teenager. In addition to the swirl of messiness in the outside world Thursday is dealing with her fictional selves... with Thursday 1-4 being the gun toting, swearing, sarcastic and sex loving version while Thursday 5 is the flower child worried more about her chakkras than learning the ropes at Jurisfiction. Add in the mega corporation Goliath's ever present meddling, buracratic nonsense in the book world, and the usual attempts on (the real) Thursday's life, and you have another highly readable, addictive book from Jasper Fforde.

The most romantic and similar to my life. Cherise is a strong, independent woman who is shocked that a person such as Lee Drace is interested in her. She is a great person with great things in mind but her attraction to Lee makes her rethink her thoughts in her life. Their pairing is romantic and endearing.

Moments of brilliance sprinkled into the largest pile of self-loathing and shallowish reflexive cultural analysis ever. But it's ok because he claims to be shallow? God it must be tough to be Chuck. Though the parts about Saved by the Bell were pretty good, I have to admit. Also the stuff about reporters, and punk rock too. Still, shut up, Chuck. Oh but also let's go have a beer together.

İlk kitabı "Sınırsız Erişim" i okuduktan sonra Washington'da olup bitenler hakkında daha fazla şey öğrenmek zorunda kaldım. Şimdiye kadar çok ilginç.
