This book is formatted such that alternating chapters are alternating viewpoints. I quickly found that only the odd-numbered chapters were readable (although, to be fair, I don't know if any artist could have made a society of small lobsters living on an asteroid going through the process of discovering classical mechanics from first principles an interesting fictional device) and those only somewhat. So, I'm giving two stars to the odd numbered chapters and calling this a mildly interesting book.

As quick and sharp as the bullets from a gangster's gat or a slap across the face from a double-dealing dame.

Continuing on from The Pemberley Chronicles, Collins continues to write about the lifes of the familes associated with the the Pemberley estate. As years go on, love blooms, children are born and major events happen in the lifes of Elizabeth and Jane, their children, granchildren and friends. Entwining polictical and social happenings with the lifes of the Pemberley estate and its people, Collins' work, once again is superb.

Genre: Space Opera, Audio Book The audio edition of this book is very compelling; it's read by Michael Shanks (of Stargate fame) and his is a very nuanced reading, despite seeming like an "invisible narrator" - not getting in the way of the words at all. The only negative thing I can say about this book is that it's addictive - it made me go and re-read all the other books in the Agent-of-Change series! I'm not sure how much sense the book would make without some background with the other books in the series, as the entire crux of the plot is a (serious) cultural misunderstanding between the heroine (who is Terran) and the hero (who is Liaden). They actually try to talk it out multiple times, but the cultural divide is serious enough that they don't manage to convey either's cultural response to their son. Without a prior introduction to Liaden clan structure I'm not sure if the book would pack the same punch.

This is a very simple telling of the story of how Dr. Greg was instrumental in building schools for the children in a village in Pakistan. It would be good to read to the Primary grades. The illustrations are beautifully done in a collage medium.
National Book Award Winner 2007---Like much of realistic fiction for young adults these days, this book had its share of profanity and sexual talk. I listened to it on CD, and it was narrated by the author. The book is fiction, but it is touted as autobiographical in nature. So listening to the author reading it gave it an added measure of poignancy. It's about his life as a Spokane Indian who tries to escape the poverty, hopelessness, alcoholism, and expectations of failure found on his reservation.

This book kind of ran too long on one joke. I made me sad.
