After having fought the outcasts, Luce decides she wants to know more about her past with Daniel and their curse. Suspecting Daniel is not telling her everything, she uses the announcers to travel to her past lives, each life further into the past. Along the way, she meets a stone gargoyle, Bill, who helps her navigate to and through her past lives. Frantic, present-day Daniel trails behind her, searching for her in her past lives - but he's not the only one following Luce into her past lives. The first half of this book dragged along for me. It was repetitive and formulaic. I didn't care for Bill's character at all. And as the reader, I was hoping for some insight with each and every past life, into the curse that ultimately causes Luce to die in each life. I was ready to give up on the book altogether, when the second half became more interesting with a bit more back story into Daniel and Luce's past. I was very interested in the glimpse of back story on Cam's past before he became one of the fallen, however, it was just a glimpse and it left me wanting for more. It wasn't until the end of the book, that it really got interesting, and I was finally glad that I'd stuck through the entire book.
Another challenging (but short) work by Badiou. Whether you agree with him or not, he will challenge the very frameworks by which you understand such discursive fields as 'Ethics'. His comments on issues like "the Rights of Man," "Ethics of Otherness" (like that of Levinas), "Political Correctness," and so forth may offend or shock the reader, but he has an interesting, well-meaning point - and I respect him for having the courage to tackle such topics. Obviously, society still deals with problems & shortcomings in the areas that the above mentioned issues were supposedly meant to solve; therefore, we have to continue to pose questions & perform critiques, and Badiou is doing just that.

This is an easy read, not too long, but very poignant story of a young preacher sent to the first nation people of the British Columbia coast. It is a story of hard work, fun, tradition, progress, life and death. Not a lot to read, but certainly a lot to think about!

I have a space in my bookshelves where only those books that truly moved me are kept. The Road easily made it to that shelf! Normally I have not liked, or even been able to finish, Cormac McCarthy books. I find his writing style tedious and too sparse. But it was this writing style that I believe made this book so fabulous! the story is sparse so the writing fit! If you get a chance listen to this book on CD. Hearing it gives the story even greater impact!

This provocative graphic novel about a Holocaust survivor and his son made me think twice about storytelling. I loved it!

Oooh, this book is good. This book is the darkest of them all so far. It also has a great deal of humour. Not wanting to ruin the book, but the end is a bit of a shocker.

I admit to an obsession with teenage/tween fiction. I thought this book was well written and that Derting has created a well-rounded character in Violet. Unlike Katniss in the Hunger Games series or Cassia in Matched, Violet was not written as so self involved so it was easier for me to like her character (granted, I am an "mature" woman so I shouldn't really be judging the self-involvement of fictional teen characters should I?!).
