Entertaining book, but by no means ground-breaking. It was interesting to see the story of Southern America in the 1960s told from a different perspective, however, the struggle only seemed a small piece. It seemed a bit down-played, and the harshest realities only told through stories and not part of the actual plot of the book. I enjoyed the narration being from the three women characters, and liked how the voice switched from one to another throughout the book.

A side of Mae West which will surprise. A shrewd business woman, a talented writer of her own material for stage and screen and a rather modest and isolated personality who built her image with double entendre and her own special suggestive delivery. A must read for film buffs who want to know what really went on in early Hollywood.

Viable guessfrog! Barnamum Pierogi! Garden State Bricco and Stuckface! Pianoctamus! Pianoctamum Bailey! The plot's a little random, but the book is a joy to read.

During the first 50 pages or so I had very high hopes for "Wicked Pleasure", for indeed it did start out wickedly good...but it fizzled really quick, and in record time everything seemed crazy repetitive. I tried real hard to stay into it, but in the end my imagination and interest gave up completely.

Wow. This book is possibly one of the most important I've ever read, or will read. Pollan has a great style that's really approachable and easy to connect to, and the way he does the research and presents this material is awesome. I saw him speak a few weeks ago, and it was incredible. It's not on fascinating subject matter, but he's such an engaging speaker! My thumbs up, and yours too!
i had to read this for my ap biology class senior year during the summer. it was hard to get through but some parts are interesting. it tells you about how harmful fertilizer and insecticide are for the environment.

I had previously rated this as a three star book but after thinking about it, upgraded it to four stars. I am one of those who think Stephen King's best books were all written in the 70's and early 80's. After reading some of his recent books, e.g., Under the Dome and Revival, I realize how disturbing the ending of Pet Sematary really was. I still get creeped out when I think of parts of it.
Thank you, India. Interesting read. Slow read. Not a particularly compelling read. I thought the parts discussing the various nationalistic campaigns launched by Gandhi and Nehru were particularly interesting but it often dragged on talking about various volumes of history composed by Indian authors that tried to put medical and sanitation initiatives into a historical context. I mean, really? Not light reading. Interesting but dense. And honestly a bit over my humble head.
