skimming aja sih.. lumayan lah bukunya buat belajar ramal-ramalan dng cara sederhana.. just for fun gitu deh, hasil ramalannya jangan dianggap serius :D paling suka yang menggunakan pendulum, praktis dan gampang, tapi cuma bisa untuk pertanyaan ya dan tidak sih :) So.. ada yang pengen diramal? :D

I love this series. I worked at a book store around the time that Amber Spyglass was coming out and had never really looked at the books before. I checked out the back of Spyglass and fell in love. I picked up the first two and read them in rapid succession, followed very quickly by the last book. The whole series fascinated me from start to finish. The concept of people having daemons with them...the Dust factor....other worlds....so amazing. I didn't realize until after I finished them that they were written by one of my favorite authors. I'd read Pullman's Sally Lockhart series a long time ago and adored it. Finding another series by an author I love always makes me happy.

Yes, I am reading this in French, and therefore I think it should count as two books.

** spoiler alert ** This book is rather dry and has almost no action. But the characters and their psychology/emotions more than make up for it. Julien Sorel in particular is a fascinating and highly-flawed fellow, who, throughout the novel, is conflicted between his own feelings and his ambition, and it's never quite clear, even by the end, what he really ends up deciding. A very thought-provoking read.

Started out really well and lost direction at the end. Told through the eyes of a wolf-like that part but lost interest.

Rarely you come across a book that can make you laugh out loud, shake in anger at the injustice of the gods, and then make you cheer when the conflict resolves itself. Sorry, did I say rarely? My mistake, make it hardly. But there it is. A book that made me laugh out loud, was a refreshing break from the cheerful ending, although tragic, was such a good read that I would love to see an awesome director turning this into a movie. Because this would be such an epic movie, provided the director did turn it as how happens in the book. Locke was an amazing character. I could see hints of Ursula Guin story, and Brandon Sanderson's Mistborn influence on him, and it just goes the extra length on my rating to be one of the most interesting character I root for. There is a few epic scenes that made me laugh out in the middle of the night as I read, especially regarding the women they came up upon accidentally cheating. But I won't spoil the story, though I could be the only one reading it in a different light that made the scene so much more funny that it credited for.

This is probably my favorite book of all time. The movie (a&e version) is great but glosses over the change that Elizabeth goes through in the book. Everyone should read this even though there are a lot of slow parts. Character counts!!

Non-fiction story about a American who ends up loving a small village in Brittany, France, and buys a house. It's pretty funny because because is French is minimal, and he does not take himself to seriously.
Technically brilliant, and very compelling, and yet one of the most discouraging novels in print. Trivia worth noting : read JTO when you're feeling up and as untouchable as Teflon. The novel is so bleak that even Hardy gave up on fiction after completing it, and never wrote a novel again.

This collection, as collections tend to be, is a bit uneven, but there are some gems in here and it's definitely worth the price of admission. Also, more proof that Michael Crichton is not that great at this whole writing thing.
