The 36 stratagems was written based on the history and problems of the Warring States and 3 Kingdom periods. Divided into 6 sections each with 6 stratagems, the book is composed of deceptive tricks and tactics used to gain advantages. The stratagems reminds me of the dirty American politics where candidates and politicians use tricks and manipulation for their motives. However, the stratagems are not only similar to dirty politics, but also to the corruption of life. There was a Chinese movie made about the moves of deception. Although, it gave the protagonist success and wealth, the dirty tricks drove his all friends away. The lesson being money isn't everything, there are more precious things in life. Wang includes vivid images and tales that makes each concept easy to understand. The 36 stratagems is used widely on ancient television shows and novels, therefore I can understand the concepts very clearly. The stratagems are composed of a short phrase, along with a few lines explaining the phrase.

You know, I liked Lies Beneath by Anne Greenwood Brown. But dear god, I did NOT want to write this review. I don’t know if it’s because I’m in a not-reviewing-mood or if Lies Beneath was just a meh type of book for me. I liked the plot—I love revenge, fall for the girl/boy plots because THEY ARE SO FREAKING INTERESTING and add conflict! So much conflict! And I liked the mermaid twist; you know, I think this is the mermaid book I’ve been searching for. Maybe. I liked that they were killer mermaids! I’m tired of the happy ones.
