I actually bought this book new!! after reading a very good review on a book lover's blog. I did enjoy it and wouldn't hesitate to lend it out. Simonson's turn of phrase and sly humour made me laugh out loud at times. It's a peaceful book, although some of the characters made me want to reach in and wring their necks! I loved the main characters, Major Pettigrew and Mrs. Ali. I have requested another book by Simonson from the library. When it comes in, my "To Be Read" shelf will have to wait.

Charlie Asher is one of the most instantly loveable characters in new literature. From the get go you learn to enjoy his innocent ability of always being overwhelmed by the world. He worries too much and cares just enough. Moore had made a great cast of mismatched yet colorful characters. I only wish i could get the image of a 7 foot black man named minty fresh wearing a mint green suit out of my head. i look forward to reading more of moors stories escpecially "The stupidist angel" and "Blood sucking fiends".

Paulo Coelho is without a doubt a gifted writer. In The Zahir, I simply could not get past his blatant spiritual "in your face" overtones, even though from what I've read about him, we'd probably agree on several things in regards to spirituality. I give it a "meh".
