Well, I had heard so much about this book I finally decided I had to read it and see for myself. It's a pretty basic thriller type genre book. A typical writing style for the best seller list - not to complicated or challenging, pretty shallow in all regards. There were a few things that I just can't get behind especially when they are integrated with an "all or nothing" style of religion but I must say that the last hundred pages did get very exciting. I am actually a little tempted to read the others just to see what happens to the "Tribulation Force."

What a fun cozy mystery! The character of Maggie is humurous, friendly, compassionate -- real. I thoroughly enjoyed following her as she tried to solve the murder her new boss and friend Felicity was accused of. And she approached the whole idea of magick with a dose of healthy skepticism. That part of the story wasn't overly done and easy to take. I will definitely be reading book two in the series!
Have you ever had someone/something taking over all your thought and feelins and becoming an obsession so overpowering you feel capable of doing anything for it and that you have lost all your sanity? You don't have to answer that, coz I already know that everyone, at some point of their life, indeed have. I am not going to write a typical review of this book, because I will say the usual praise. I learned alot about Khazakh history and culture, and learned about the concept of the "zahir" which is supoosed to be in the Islamic tradition but which I have never heard of my whole life maybe because my sect is not mystical. I will here quote my favorite part, and then write a little about what it means to me (this is inspired by a certain Indonesian twin ;-) ): "The acomodador, or giving-up point: there is always an event in our lives that is responsible for us failing to progress: a trauma, a particularly bitter defeat, a disappointment in love, even a victory that we did not quite understand, can make cowards of us and prevent us from moving on" I never thought about this before reading it in this book, and it was such an eye opener. Because sitting there book in my hand, i remembered how many times i have faced an acomodador. Losing my parents and one of my best friends made me believe that I will always lose anyone I love, and so it's not worth it to love anyone. Constant rejection from sports teachers because I was a girl made me believe that I can never be good at sports (i still can't do anything right in any type of sport until today), my mom's not liking a drawing i worked very hard on made me believe that my art will never be good enough, and i still highly underestimate my work til this day. This is one of those books that is not designed to help you or make u more spirtually connected, etc...it is just a work of fiction, but regardless of that, it ddid, and it does, and i urge everyone to read it. Now, share with us an acomodador of your own...let's tell our histories to each other so we can leave them behind...

Definitely one of the funniest books I've ever read. It's full of irreverent humor so is probably not the best read for anyone who is really sensitive about religion.

As a kid, I would have really liked this book. But that was 15 years ago. It's written in more technical language than I like for younger children, and doesn't really go in-depth enough to suit older children. Not much here that I couldn't find in a good Google search, though it may be useful for those kids who want more information but aren't allowed unfettered internet access yet.

I found the book hard to finish because it is written like thesis, with lots of detail and footnotes, but I stuck with it because I found the story of John Nash's battle with mental illness fascinating
I love mysteries, and this book was one of the best mysteries that I have ever read.

Although I am a big fan of Shawn of the Dead and Dawn of the Dead, I never thought I'd enjoy a book about zombies so much. The book works as a horror novel and as a sociological commentary. A fascinating "what if" story. The short sections--all with different narrators--was distracting at first but in hindsight seems essential.

Some parts felt a bit hokey but, overall, it was beautifully drawn. I found myself pausing to just stare at certain images. I can definitely understand it's popularity among teens and finished it in one sitting (which was easy to do because it's a graphic novel.) This is the first graphic novel I've purchased completely of my own accord and I don't regret the decision.

I'm not usually into graphic novels but this one was excellent. The movie was so amazing that it became my all time favorite and then I decided to read the novel due to that. Excellent story!
