The story in brief…..Aldwyn lands in a pickle (not literally) and is forced into hiding when the Hunter (a big, dark, and SCARY man…~shudders~) is called out to capture him. While trying to escape, he ducks into a pet shop that would prove anything but mundane and set him on the path of a destiny he knew not of. From humble upbringings to the formation of a potential family (something he has longed for), Aldwyn learns that sometimes you can depend on others to be there for you and his new found friends are just the group to illustrate that lesson. A tale of friendship, family, and all the things money CAN’T buy…regardless of what you desire. I loved the main characters from the tips of their wings to their furry tails and even their bulgy little eyes. The roles each were given were well filled and the human like qualities they were granted matched well with the storyline created. I couldn’t help making an observation, though it may be something that all books featuring wizardry in any fashion suffer from thanks to a particular series, but our wizarding friends though furry, feathery and slimy, carry some distinctive character traits of the infamous human trio. Check it out, you'll see what I mean.... It’s not a hard stretch to make the association…HOWEVER, despite the similarities seen and the risky adventure they are embarking on, the story itself stands on its own two feet. I can see a younger reader getting behind this story as the fascination with animals usually hits at an early age. Teen readers looking for a new adventure, still filled with magic and wonder but in another form, will reach for this curious tale.Adult readers reaching for this series is highly likely as well because really….you are never too old for animal stories filled with magic, adventure, and heart. All in all, a find addition to the world of Children’s Literature and a great read for middle grade through adult readers.

Really liked this book. Many life events that could be related to. Ending leaves you hanging. I hope she is going to do more with these characters because there is absolutely no closure. If she brings them back in another book, I will definitely buy it! I got this book on the clearance rack and it is the best buy I have ever had!

There are other people on Goodreads who have written excellent reviews of this book, so many that I was tempted to "Like" a whole slew of them and call it quits on writing my own. For any of my friends who actually read my reviews, though, here is my take. Angry Management is really a set of three short stories tied together with the premise that Mr. Nak is leading an anger management group for teens in rural northern Idaho/southeastern Washington. Each of the three stories tells about 2 kids in the anger management group, the schools they go to, and a conflict they face. Most of the characters appeared in some form in another of Crutcher's books; some of them I hadn't read and now would like to, to see their original context. Overall, I liked the book a great deal. The first story, about Angus Bethune and Sarah Byrnes, was good, heartbreaking. The second story (about Montana Wild and Trey somebody) didn't ring true for me. The "bad guys" in the story were only 2 dimensional, and made me more frustrated than anything else. This story, on its own, was the piece of Crutcher writing I have liked least of anything of his I have read. The third story, however, was excellent. (I won't say perfect--other reviewers have pointed out some flaws--but it was excellent.) Marcus James and Matt Miller are endearing, struggling high schoolers. The overall plot, with its dual bigotry, was riveting. Maybe it seems extreme to some, but I believed in Marcus. I have to let go of my hate for the town a little, but this story is worth the read. Unless you are an obsessive Crutcher fan, I actually think it might be better if you HAVEN'T read Whale Talk, which is the seed for this story.

This is a very short, very simple telling of The Princess and the Pea. I'm afraid Gail Levine didn't do anything new with the tale and it was written in that flat, two dimensional way Grims fairytales are told. I was hoping for something more from this author who wrote Ella Enchanted.

I first read this book at least 20 years ago. I found it just as thought provoking as I remember it. It is a fascinating look at "what could be" in our future if our society becomes ruled by the religious right. I did not like the final chapter - then or now.

It's true, it's an amazingly written book. I loved the characters; I loved the prose. But the ending seems to latch onto a feminist kick that I didn't feel was justified through the rest of the book. But hey, it's bestseller, so I'm sure most people disagree with that. Tell me why I'm wrong!
