This book is fabulous. I am really into fairy tales and their symbolism, and I especially love new takes on a fairy tale. This is a new fairy tale altogether. It is a beautiful story about a princess who is just like every other "ordinary" or average person. It is a great book to read to your kids or take with you babysitting :) It is well written with a wonderful moral and a happy ending. The recipe for a perfect fairy tale.

the book is fast moving and well written. It really should get four stars but there was a great deal of violence in it -- that of course is because violence would have been the reality of the situation.

I was possessed by a very strong urge to reread this book recently, which happens every four or five years. I've read this at least five times, and always find something new. This time I was struck by how the whole story is told in second person, and that the narrator never gives an justification or explanation for the "you" address. What a strong voice, such gutsy writing. The language and other elements are dated, but I think this book has much to teach.

I have loved this book since I was a teenager ... I read this book completely through several times before I had finally finished Interview. For those that are not interested in extremely intricate story lines and love long books please pick this up. If you don't have an open mind I would advise to put this book down. For just in the genealogy of the family is extremely twisted. I have read this book off and on through the years since I was 15 - that states something... how many books can you say you re-read or have?
