There is a gradual crescendo in this book that may bore some, but which I thought allowed the author to build her characters beautifully. The book had a sinister quality to it without being too dark, just mysterious. Very gothic.

Gets right inside the head of Alfie Day, ex-tail gunner and angry man, via stream of consciousness and confusing time shifts. Worth the effort - I could feel his thinking.

After reading tons of raving reviews about this book, I finally decided to buy it, as my first ever eBook for my Kobo. Now I am left to wonder why I took so long to buy it. I have really liked mythology based books for a while now and this one did not end that streak. The story of this novel is incredibly unique- it takes the story of Persephone and retells it in a way that is fresh and relate-able for teens. Plus, there are some awesome twists and turns around every corner in this book. One of the most refreshing aspects of this novel was that there was no instant, head over heals love involved. Don't get me wrong, I do enjoy that sort of book, but I come across that theme quite frequently in all the books I read. The book was very well written and I really enjoyed reading about the characters and seeing the Greek gods with personalities that made them feel much closer to being human. This book gets a 5/5 for living up to all the hype that surrounds it.

Fantastic book that has an absolutely horrendous ending.

I read this book over several days, and each time I sat down it was like a little journey overseas. Riccardi writes sensitively and sincerely about her sojourn to Japan to learn about tea and food culture. Unlike so many other travel and food writers, she doesn't gush, and I don't find that she romanticizes either. I've since encountered her articles in food magazines and have enjoyed all those as well. She has convinced me of her integrity!

I was convinced reading this (long before the movie came out or there was any buzz) that it was a non-fiction book written by an old retired geisha. I was shocked to read the author's bio and realize he is a man. He writes that well.
Brilliant story that scared the crap out of me. I still have "dust bunny" nightmares. Shudder-inducingly good.

This book is full of gems. At times its hard to follow. I have not read every word but most of it. Parts I reread often. Along with being a blessing for the faithful, many arguments that are the basis for contemporary existentialism and be found in it.

I Enjoyed reading this book. It took me a while to get into the London setting though. Although this book/series is much like the mortal instruments series, I still found it to be entertaining. I love the way this author writes. She describes people, places, and events so well. I am always persuaded by the author to like the boy I am meant to like. I wanted Tessa to end up with will but after reading it, there weren't too many good moments of him. He didn't come across a too deep a character, acutally.

The first to ever make me really sad, way back in junior year of high school.
Content: When Cassandra inherits a cottage in England from her grandmother Nell, she starts looking for her ancestors at the same time. For a long time she had felt safe in the family, but suddenly Cassandra has to realize that Nell is not Haimish's biological daughter and tried to find her family during her lifetime ... Writing / storytelling style: Kate Morton consistently disappointed me. She has no sensitivity for character formation and so all protagonists swim on the surface without really diving into the story. Initially I found Eliza very interesting, but she turns out to be a decal from a writer who tried to copy other colleagues. My Opinion: I couldn't find any access to the story right from the start. At the beginning I was already confused: who is Eliza Makepeace and do I know her fairy tales from somewhere? Throughout history, Eliza has emerged as a main protagonist who has been stamped by Morton: Eliza is a fairy tale writer who has consistently put together her stories from existing and popular fairy tales. But that is swept under the table. Children who are poor and whose uncles put their perverted attention on the niece? - Anyone interested in such stories is excellently served with V. C. Andrews. I adore all works, including those of the ghostwriter. It is not for nothing that she lives on with her ideas beyond her death. The blurb from The Hidden Garden states luridly: love, romance and excitement to the last page! Uh - where? It is not really loved, since everyone is somehow either aristocratic and in a terrible relationship or rejects the love of the father, who took care of his daughter all his life because it turns out that he is not the physical. Terrible! Romance because you design a hidden garden? Frances Hodgson Burnett, who is even mentioned as a party guest, should be ashamed of strangers, Morton copied so much. Conclusion: A colleague said to me during the lunch break: Oh, that's exciting! And already then I said that I simply don't want access. The constant change in times and the miserable elaboration do the history no favor. Shouldn't have been published!
