Graphic Novel. Spider Jerusalem's been living in the mountains for five years, letting his hair grow and hiding from his fans, but an unfinished book contract forces him back into the sin-infested city. Hot DAMN is Spider sexy and messed up. This really is the perfect place for Ellis. He gets to swear and hate humanity and write monologues about how shitty life is and that's the story instead of getting in the way of the story. The art is just as manic and pissed off as Spider, full of dirt and porn and product placement. I love it. Five stars. Ellis' strengths are really put on display here. I'll read this again and again.

Really, really engrossing and good read! It took me a little time to really get into it, but once I did it paid off. My main reason for giving 4 rather than 5 stars is that the whole time reading, I wasn't quite able to shake the sense of distance I felt from the characters & story. I'm not sure how to put it other than that - I think that says more about the combination of my taste in books and this story than it does about the overall quality of the writing. Anyway, I really did enjoy it - I knew the Joscelin romance was coming, but the way it played out in the story was really sweet and not what I'd expected. I'm definitely interested in how that all plays out in the sequels. I also want to give Jacqueline Carey major props for making the whole political intrigue side of the story twisty and intricate and a little confusing, yet not impossible to follow. That seems like it'd be somewhat of a challenge and I think she pulled it off quite well :) I'll be reading more in this series for sure!

so far this book seems to be revealing to me that charlie is the reserved 15 year old that most people didn't care to get to know. not just the fact that others would possibly find him extremely weird but also that he seems to go through everything imaginable all at once. just when you think there couldn't possibly be anything else that could happen, wait for it, it does. With all this said, i do not hate the book. nor do i dislike it, just my view on it thus far. Brings back memories from my high school days. I can not wait to finish this book.
