This book was AMAZING!! It's about a 19th century yankee from Connecticut. He is somehow transported back to the 6th century, King Arthur's Time. The story line is very good; and it can be political at times, but it was still amazing. Some of the material is a little rough; such as when he talks about slavery and how poorly the common folk are treated. It is still a really good book and I highly reccomend it.

Anna Dressed In Blood is officially one of my new favorite books of all time. Let's just get that established and out of the way. This review will be fairly short because I'm trying to keep the gushing to a minium. You will find that I have absolutely nothing negative to say about this brilliant book or its ridiculously talented author, Kendare Blake. She crafted this incredible horror story that, most importantly, scared the crap out of me, but it also made me laugh and made me swoon and, at times, nearly made me cry. I was so weary of this book, even when I began reading it. A ghost-killer meets a pretty ghost who spares his life? Predictable. Said ghost-killer boy manages to befriend the gorgeous popular girl? Yawn. But the more I read, the more stupid my assumptions became. Anna is not predictable, not at all. It grabbed hold of me and whipped me in all sorts of directions with its daring, exciting twists and turns. There was definitely never a boring moment. And you know a book is always a success when it can take two emotions on completely different ends of the spectrum and manage to mesh them together without fail. Anna Dressed In Blood is highly disturbing but highly entertaining at the same time. I've never had so much fun being scared and grossed out before. I could sit here and dissect this book for you all, but I don't think I need to. Whoever said there's no such thing as perfection is a liar because Anna Dressed In Blood is the perfect horror story - scary, disturbing, romantic, intense and action-packed and so, so much more. I cannot begin to stress how much you all need to get yourself a copy of this book. A million and one stars to Anna!

John Irving creates the most bizarre worlds, situations and characters. It is simply wonderful to get lost in his books. This one is still somehow haunting me.

Andrea Gillies is an excellent teacher. I learned more about dementia from this book than from anything I have read so far. I also learned about Andrea's all too human heart. She is an amazing survivor-caretaker. Bravo for all you did for your family, Andrea. I also wanted to say that the cover art is perfect for the story- the little world surrounding an armchair, with a woman's blurred outline just on the edge of the picture perfectly captures what Andrea described. Nancy became a blur of motion and speech which gradually faded into nothingness. I remember years ago when I was in grade school, my dad came home from a house call (he is a podiatrist). He told me that a person's life gets smaller and smaller as they get older, and eventually it includes just their arm chair and the surrounding area.

I loved this account of Motley Crue's misadventures. It was outrageous and unbelievable but still somehow emotional and at times touching. Their capers are now legend, but hearing about their craziness almost makes me wish I was there to party with them. Almost. But I kind of value my sanity.
