Nice work Kim. You make mention, this time around, how much a sub must give over and trust. How hard that can be. I appreciate that you show us that subing is not so easy. I wasnt sure at first - but I loved this series. The trolls were intersting the characters were interesting and once again - I stayed up late to read into the wee hours and paid for it during the day. I would find myself thinking about the characters during the day and longing to find time to sit and hang out with them. So sad it is over! Hope she will do more with the Queen & King and the kingdom under their reign.

I started to read this book and found it so similar to "The Omnivore's Dilemma" that I had to put it down - at least temporarily. If you want to read them both, I suggest spacing them out or it might be a bit of foodie overkill.

I have been trying to reread some of my old favorite books to see what I think of them now, and to write a review for them. I started the Dragonriders of Pern when I was in middle school or high school, but I didn't start with this book...and thank goodness I didn't. My first Dragonriders book was Dragonsdawn. I loved it so much I went back and started at the beginning of the series. When I first read this book, I thought it was alright but not all that special. However, I went on to read the entire series (more than once) so it couldn't have been all that bad. Upon this reread however, I have seen what a weak novel it is. The writing isn't good, and it doesn' have the spark of later books. Granted, this was the first in the series and once Anne became a best selling author she was allowed to include more in her stories. I also remembered that discussions between riders and dragons were in italics, but that wasn't the case in this book. Perhaps this wasn't used until later books. If I were to recommend a book in this series for someone to pick up, this definately wouldn't be first on the list.

Cute story! I really enjoyed this. This was so NOT formulaic though I wasn't as surprised at who ended up together as much as I was surprised with whom I was thoroughly disgusted at the end. I'd say I'd have liked it to be longer, but it was a very nicely constructed short story with a solid beginning, middle, and end. AND I know that there is at least one sequel to this story to appease the size queen. LOL

It was a long book but it kept you interested. Although there was no huge climatic scene, there were mini ones spread throughout the entire book. I didn't really like that. Also there were some pretty cheesy parts. I could take or leave reading the second novel. The only thing that might draw me in to read the second is the fact that there was a semi-interesting ending.
