Good book, but I hated the ending.

Wow, this book is way to hyped up! I hated it and if I hadn't been reading it for book club I probably wouldn't have finished it. Not only did I not like the story, I also was not impressed with the writing itself.

Interesting story about the Foster Care system in the the US. Not particularly well written, but a fast read that'll make you think.

This was the second book that gave me hope in a very dismal time. Even though most parents of teens with an eating disorder know in their heads they are not the cause of their child's disorder, in their hearts they still wonder. This book gave me some solace that I am not an evil parent; I didn't cause this; I CAN trust my intuition. There were other parents out there, struggling just as hard as I was to re-feed my child! I am not alone! (Yes, those are exclamations. It's very lonely as a parent when you first start battling this on your child's behalf. To come to the realization that I really wasn't alone was truly a awesome relief.)

Laughed out loud at some of the poems - looked for excuses to read them to kids!

I can totally tell that the fan fury must have been crazy after the 3rd book which prompted the 4th. I liked the transition to a new focus on other characters. It will be interesting to see how she goes on from here. I'm definately curious about the next book and want to know what happend to the characters.
I picked this up at a used bookstore, not from any feelings about Martha Stewart one way or the other, but because it's fascinating to me how someone (especially a woman who comes from working class roots) achieves success and power. I have never watched one of her shows or read one of her books. While she was teaching women how to be all la di da in the eighties and nineties, I was doing the ordinary, down to earth homemaking, cooking, baking, decorating and raising kids in my own way. I never found Martha's over the top ways at all appealing, so just tuned her out. When she went to prison over insider trading, I felt like she had been picked on for being a woman. But after reading this biography using countless interviews and quotes from people close to her, I am thinking she did okay for someone who has made her fortune through cheating others, lying, breaking contracts, intimidating and abusing employees, and all the other stuff that apparently went on behind the pretty, smiling face. I gave it only 3 stars because altho it was a juicy read, it was just too much. I got so tired of hearing about this woman. What a sicko. What a con artist. I am sure she deserved much more than her year in white-collar prison, and I'm convinced that anything bad that happens to her in the twilight years of her life (she turned 70 this year) will not even be close to the punishment that she deserves. By the time I was done with this book I kept thinking of another one on my to-read list -- The Sociopath Next Door.

I have no idea why people would think this book would "spill all the juicy details about Charlie" because this book was about DENISE and her life and how she has dealt with and handled her dark times & rough patches as well as discussing the fact that she chooses to keep the specifics/details of those very personal things private - as she should in my opinion. She has to think about the info she gives out & the possibility it may (and likely would) get back to her children - who really don't need to ever hear most of those details. I enjoyed the book. I learned a lot about her and like her even more now after reading this. The book and her honesty about her feelings help bring into perspective that yes she is a celeb, but she is also just a woman who is human - like all of us. Lucky for us most of us don't have to go through the sort of stuff she has publicly, but Denise handles it with class and grace.
Cool story, a little cheese but I liked the main character's calm demeanor in the face of all that nuttiness. But c'mon man, two metphors and a simile in a five-line paragraph is... too much.

Disappointing, given all of the hype. Made me sad for the ladies and I didn't enjoy this as much as I thought I would. I don't think I could relate very much to the characters.
