Quick review from Much Loved Books Review-White Cat Do you ever pick up a book, read it and wonder why you hadn't read the book sooner. That is how I feel with White Cat. I have heard a lot of good things about it but I have never wanted to pick it up before, now I wish I had. Holly Black builds a world of curse workers where one touch can curse someone. Either by killing them, erasing memories, sleep walking or luck working and more. Each time they use their power they get blowback, so if they use their power for bad then they get it back like Cassel's Grandfathers curse working, death. Each time he uses it then part of him dies. I love the names of the characters, Cassel and Barron, they are so original and stick in you head. The story begins excellently and makes you want to continue reading to see what happens next. I could not put this book down and will have to buy Red Glove the next book in the series.

Quinn Parker is about to have the summer of her life. She’s flying out to Austin, Texas to live with her cousin Penny and has a job working for the label of her favorite indie rock band. The only thing that could make this music filled summer any better would be a boy, the perfect boy in fact. The thing is though, there is no such thing as perfect. Her summer fling becomes a huge question and then there’s the cute cowboy next door who just seems to bring the heat to Quinn’s summer. Then there’s the fact that Penny turns out to be a sorority bimbette who is completely opposite of Quinn. Then there’s her job, which is more like a half-job and leaves Quinn with a bit too much free time. Well it might not turn out as the all time best summer, Quinn definitely is in for an eye-opening summer vacation. Melissa Walker is one of the best authors for teen girls. She gets them and understands how to pique their interest. Lovestruck Summer was no exception to her awesome books streak and I really, really liked it! The plot was fun and cute. There were a couple twists and turns that really added to the positive vibe the book cast. I loved the focus on music and the setting was a lot of fun. While it was fluffy, it was one of the best chick-lit books I have read in a long time. It satisfied my romantic heart and completely transported me to the sweltering heat of Austin with every page turn. Melissa Walker definitely knows her way around a romance as she made me lust for a summer as supreme as Quinn’s. For a fluffy romance book I was pleasantly surprised with the characters. I felt all the characters really came to life, all with their own quirks. Even Penny, your classic sorority girl, was 3-D with her spunky dialogue and of course her cross-dressing dog. Quinn was funny and relatable. I loved how the reader got to see her develop friendships. I often found myself wanting to screat at her from being so blind when it came to guys, but hey it was worth it! On a side note, there were many tiny refrences to the Violet books which made me giggle, a lot. It was just another element that added to the cuteness factor of this book. Overall this was such a fun read and I encourage you all to pick it up and give it a go.

Mike and I have discovered a new common goal. Paying off the truck a year early last month was fantastic. Thanks to Dave that money went to a different debt this month instead of creating a new one!

I actually think this a good book...definitely a quick read! About a woman who goes back in time and has the chance to do it all over again...kind of a fun subject.
A fun little read, with some sound advice! (Laura's pick for September, C'Ville bookclub)
This was the first Shelly Crane book I read, and I loved it, and have re-read the series time after time! I generally do not fall for the "love at first sight" books because they are usually not that believable. Not the case with Significance! Getting a look inside the characters' heads and understanding why they are feeling the way they are and what they're going through together made me love the story so much more. Soulmates Maggie and Caleb are both endearing people with nicely fleshed out character development. I always appreciate the effort that Shelly puts out when creating her stars and supporting roles, so much so that I would absolutely read any spinoff she would ever do for this series (even one for Kyle, and that's saying a lot, considering my extreme dislike of him for most of the series. He really needs additional redeeming qualities, in my opinion. Do not get me started on him!). I have enjoyed the series so far and cannot wait for the final book, Independence. Shelly, keep up the good work! Your stories are heartwarming and your boys swoonworthy! Such a great combo! Also published on: Soulless Gingers Do Read

I absolutely loved this book the way the author did the future!

Okay, this is deserving of the Caldecott! It's adorable, sweet, and kind - my kids like it, but I bet grandparents would like it even more, given the sweet treatment of an older, sick gentleman. And I want to be a zookeeper again!

** spoiler alert ** I picked this up at the library. I had never read anything by Dessen before, so I thought that it might be time. I expected this to be a super-sweet romance, but was extremely underwhelmed. I hated Remy. Well, maybe not 'hate', but I strongly disliked her. She was truly a 'heartless, cold bitch'. She acted so rash towards her father, even when she had to reason to because he had done nothing wrong towards her. Also, she was completely ungrateful towards her mother, brother, Dexter, and basically everyone else in her family. This brings us to my next point: I loved Dexter. He was a funny, witty character that I would love to be friends with. What I didn't understand is why he fell for Remy. He didn't even know her, so it was most likely her looks. Then, after they did know each other and she treated him like crap, he still liked her. Then, throughout their relationship (which, by the way, lasted a mere 5 chapters or so) she seemed uninterested and couldn't care less. I didn't get it. I felt like kicking some sense into Remy: she shouldn't be treating Dexter (or any guys, for that matter) that way. She reminds me of the people my group of friends and I make fun of: the ones who have new boyfriends every week, but don't give a damn about any of them. Hm. Also, nothing plot-like happened in this novel. 1. She meets Dexter. 2. Her boyfriend cheats on her, they break up. 3. She goes out with Dexter. 4. She treats him like garbage. 5. He LOVES her. 6. She thinks she might like him, but doesn't show it in any way other than when she offers herself for sex. 7. She then realizes she may actually feel something sentimental towards him, so of course breaks up with him (..?) 8. They're still friends. 9. She realizes she may be able to live with liking a guy for the first time in her life, for things other than sex. 10. The end. This is labeled at a YA romance novel, although it had next to zero romance in it. The Hunger Games satisfied my romance craving more than this did. Like I said before, she and Dexter only lasted a few chapters. The only reason I gave this a 2 star was because it was interesting to be in the mind of someone like her, even if I felt like throwing a punch at her every five seconds. It was well-written, and I'm not lowering points for not having a plot: I picked this up for an easy read, and that's what it was. I usually underestimate books when I'm in a bad mood, so that when I do realize that the novel is good, I can feel really good and be even more hooked onto it. This one lived below it's expectations. It's a shame, though I do think I will pick up another Dessen novel before I can officially proclaim that I strongly dislike her characters/plots.
