Martins adds so much detail to his series. The characterization is amazing. You are able to see the point of view of many different characters. Loved it.

Love the movie. Hate the book. The fact that the author wrote it as a report should have said something

This book provides a very broad overview for a very detailed aspect of the profession. I found myself confused most of the time.

It's weird... I thought this book was ridiculous when I read it a few years ago. Now I'm wondering if it's not really important. So I'm re-reading it.

I couldn't decide if I liked the storyline but I couldn't stop thinking about the characters, either. They got under my skin.
A very short story - the movie is actually better than the book, I think.

Initially enthralling, then turns in to a distended imitation of "The Devil in the White City"

Give me some cocoa, a warm fire, a nice down blanket, and one of them there wolves Ms. Knight writes about and I’ll be one sated sister! This book was so good. It encompassed magic, and shifting, but most of all, it encompassed love that surpassed centuries. Child that Nicholai/Niko had me wishing he was mine and crying when his world came crashing down. I won’t write anymore for a fear I’ll give away the plot and ending but guys and girls this is one author whose books will definitely be on my must read list and I encourage you to put her on yours as well. I give this book four and half divas because I wanted it to be longer…it actually felt like a novel instead of a novella it was that freaking good. Reviewed by M.N. This reads like a travel memoir with bits of science thrown in. fav quotes: I don't believe in such miracles, but others do, and my life is richer as a result. This twilight of half belief is, I think, not a bad space to inhabit. And so it is with happiness. When the talk of genetics and communal bonds and relative income is stripped away, happiness is a choice. Not an easy choice, not always a desirable one, but a choice nonetheless. p 184 Some places are like family. They annoy us to no end, especially during the holidays, but we keep coming back for more because we know deep in our hearts, that our destinies are intertwined. For me that place is India. I hate it. I love it. Not alternately but simultaneously. For if there is anything this seductive, exasperating country teaches us it is this: It's possible to hold two contradictory thoughts at the same time and, crucially, to do do without your head exploding. Indians do it all the time. p 275. I've spent much time pondering whether we canshould measure it. p283 There is one simple question, he said, the answer to which identifies your true home. That question is: "Where do you want to die?" p320 "So, excuse me for asking-- I'm sure you get this all the time-- but what is it?" "What is what?" "The secret-- to being you, to being Happy?" "Just keep on smiling. Even when you're sad. Keep on smiling." p 321

I don't typically read much fiction besides romance, sci-fi, and fantasy (notice the escapist trend), because non-fiction's like learning without boring lectures. But I started reading this book and couldn't put it down. I only know Kelley Armstrong through her urban fantasy books. Similar to the Otherworld series, the heroine in this book is strong but human. She's also a hit(wo)man. I find the level of detail and planning that goes into Nadia's hits, as well as the internal and external dialogue, to be fascinating. I couldn't put it down-- in fact, I stayed up until 2:30 AM to finish this AND the next book in the series. Please write many more Nadia Stafford books, Kelley!
