Well... To tell the truth? I wrote this book. It was my first to be published, and it is dear to my heart. I will never have such an interesing idea for a hero again. This is historic romantic suspense. Has a crazy serial killer villain. Charles, the hero is super cool, and Catherine, the heroine has a kind and courageous heart. This book was nominated for a major award.

Spin was an interesting read, so I decided to give this book a SPIN. (Sorry for the bad pun there) Arranged was an okay book for me, but I guess it could be the fact that I'm in the wrong age group. Anne Blythe is a woman in her thirties who wants what her friend has - a marriage. Finding a card for a company, she calls it, under the impression that they are a dating service. Instead, it's a company that arranges for arranged marriages. Perhaps because I'm still in my teens, I felt that Anne was overreacting about not being married, and being alone. But then again, I never really felt the need to have a significant other in my life always, so it was hard for me to relate. Additionally, the idea of an arranged marriage based on a "friendship philosophy" seems not that bad (not that I would consider having one). It's true that society is in love with the idea of love, and maybe that's why there are many failed marriages. You think you're in love, and that the person is wonderful. You already have that high expectation of them, so when they mess up a bit (like forgetting to put down the toilet seat), it seems as if your initial judgement of them has been wrong. Being married to a friend however, does not guarantee romantic love, but it does seem like a better idea. I am more willing to forgive a friend for doing something wrong, compared to the effort it would take to forgive a significant other. All in all, it was a well written book (even though I kind of wish the ending was different), but I guess I'm still too young to relate to the main character. Perhaps I will give it another shot when I'm a bit older, and itching to get married. :)

Well written, well researched, but seemed obvious and unoriginal. Some case studies and stories were fascinating to read (such as about the makings of Sesame Street), and others fell short of any awe-factor, surprises, or nuggets of insight.

I wasn't expecting rocket science from this chick lit book, but I was expecting something more enjoyable than what I got. The three Sullivan sisters must write their confessions to their grandmother Almighty because the old coot cut them all out of her will. And so we get the plot through their confessions. One sister loves an older man and runs away from her cotillion. One sister tells all the family secrets on her blog and gets suspended from school for blasphemy. The other sister thinks she's immortal and believes she killed her step-grandpa. And that's about it. I never did get attached to any of the characters and didn't laugh at all while I read the book. It was light-hearted in parts, but just didn't reach me. Best part of the book is the cover!

This is a gorgeous book that has a movie based off of it. I definitely enjoyed it although it may not be for everyone. In some ways, it reminds me of A. S. Byatt's Possession because of the intensely detailed description of things, but I think it was more a reflection of the meticulous observational skills of the main character. Each and every item of clothing, the details of the surroundings and the meticulously cold way she describes all reflects her sense of snow. An amazing book that keeps its tone and feel throughout.
A fascinating early work of psychoanalysis on the divided self, neurosis, and paranoia, written by a man who was himself paranoid, neurotic, and divided. Rank said elsewhere that paranoia was a symptom of latent homosexuality, and of course he was allegedly that, too. I wish I owned a copy (good luck!) because even though it's been ten years or so since I read it, I remember it being engaging, short, and eminently quotable.
I was surprised at how much I enjoyed this book. It keeps you interested until the very end.

** spoiler alert ** After reading a number of "meaty" books, I enjoyed the comparative lightness of this. While, admittedly, the story wasn't all lightness, the writing was light and easy to read, and I was able to get through it quickly, which is something I really like in novel. I was disappointed in the ending, though. Maybe I should be happier that the ending wasn't predictable, but I would have preferred one that was, because this one felt incomplete. But, in the meantime, it was a nice journey.

This book was recommended to me, and I was a little leery based on the subtitle. But, Gilbert wrote the book well, covering her issues without dwelling on them to the point of whining. She also gave a good feel for what she did in each place, and you could tell that she knew that she was lucky to have the opportunity.

This was an excellent book about a black girl struggling through the oppression of Brooklyn projects, to raise herself from the depths to become a lawyer. I really like memoirs.

Bunu şimdi iki kez okudum. Okuduğum en nadir, en sade hikayelerden biri. Ama en güzel sonlardan biri, şimdiye kadar okuduğum tüm literatürdeki favori satırlarım ve paragraflarımdan biri.
