I enjoy a good JA adaptation rolled into chick lit!

I always wanted to be like Harriet when I was her age and read this book, but you just can't sneak into people's houses in suburban Atlanta!! (They'd probably be too boring to be worth the risk anyway). I think my favorite parts in the book are Harriet's notebook, the game she makes up with people cut out from magazines, and her tomato sandwiches!

** spoiler alert ** Tears of a Tiger is another book about the tragedy of the Hazelwood High School students, by Sharon M. Draper. There was an accident and one of the Hazelwood’s star basketball players was killed. The driver who was also the victim’s best friend, felt guilty and going through a lot with his life. But this book is really about the driver, Andy Jackson, as well as the whole school struggles. Andy Jackson was driving the car that crashed one night after a game, killing Robert Washington, his best friend and the captain of the Hazelwood High Tigers. Robert Washington, also known as Rob, was a smart and talented young man. He was very different from all of his friends. It was said that everybody who was in the car was drunk after winning a basketball championship trophy. The book is composed of conversations between students as well as families, teachers, and counselors. It is also composed of diary entries, letters to friends, homework assignments about love and friendship, and even prayers. Andy is trying to get over the accident but it's all he can think about and dream about. Andy's girlfriend Keisha is trying to help him, but it seems like its no use. Andy also is seeing a psychiatrist, but after a while he is "stable" so he doesn't have to come back unless he needs to talk. Andy didn't realize he really needed to talk until it was too late. Andy would skip school and one day he had took his father's hunting gun and committed suicide. It was hard for his friends, girlfriend and his family. Their English teacher made them write letters to Andy, and most of the letters talk about how much they did appreciate him and how much he hurt them by committing suicide. I liked this book, for the most part. I thought since this was a continuation from "Forged by Fire" that I would really enjoy this book.

For a "mystery," I found the mystery aspect of this novel diminished from the whole. Altogether this was a very enjoyable read and haunting in many aspects. The author has an undeniably gift for poetry and my copy of the book is now thoroughly underlined in particularly lovely places. There was an undertone of animal activism ("The presumption of it struck Tom: that one should speak of ownership in relation to nerved flesh."), wonderfully subtle, which made me enjoy the novel even more than I otherwise might have.

So much has been written about this book that my two cents worth won't make you read/not read it. It's funny to think that it was once one of the most banned books since it really is not that hectic, but it's still one of the books on all classic love story lists. Highly recommended.

Read Alphas: Origins. It was amazing! I have been looking forward to this since I started reading little snippets on the blog. Karina is an awesome heroine one who is not only tough but very intelligent and caring. Additionally, Ms. Andrews descriptions evoked such wonderful and at times disturbing imagery. I look forward to the next installment of this dark, gritty tale.

This is the third book in the Cedar Cover Series. I am enjoying this series--both the old and new characters. It is easy to read and has a small town feel to it.

This book basically summarized four years of my development studies education. I like how Sachs is able to fit it all into a relatively short, easy read, and hope that the book will help to mainstream some ideas about development economics that are usually relegated to the World Bank and development academics. The book is inspiring and pragmatic at the same time, though I wonder about the world ever being efficient enough to achieve the goals set in the book. "Foreign assistance is not a welfare handout, but is actually an investment that breaks the poverty trap once and for all."
