The writer keeps this book reasonably personable to both his subjects and himself. It wasn't what I was entirely expecting but it was a good survey of some of the modern western treatments of THE GREAT BRAIN GOD

Medical thriller is one of my favorite book genres. It’s fascinating to read and learn about something in the field of medicine and be entertained at the same time. It also becomes very believable when it’s written by a doctor; same with legal thrillers written by lawyers. On the book itself....well, it's not really a medical thriller per se. It just happened that the protagonists are doctors. It's a good one but I am left wanting at the end, although everything actually wraps up nicely: no loose ends, no unanswered questions, no stones left unturned, as the saying goes. I’m surmising it might be a little bit short for me or as I mentioned, it's not very medical. A non-doctor writer would have pulled this off with some research. A point I want to raise on the Kindle edition - any word that ends with 2 f's (ff) is always compounded to the word that follows it, like "off the" becomes "offthe". At first I thought it's a one-off typo, but no...so you either learn to live with it or get irritated all the way - personally, I tried to live with it (what else was there to do), but it was still a bit irritating. I got this for free in Kindle, but when I checked out the author's other books, I noticed that it has now a price tag! I'm glad I got it while it was still free.

Good, but not great. I applaud his ability to describe heartbreaking events with humor and perspective, and he is a little full of himself, but it's a memoir-ish book, after all.

i got that book when i was like 9 years old from a very small library. i was there so get a card so i could borrow books and you could choose one book to keep from a box with old books. i took this very old one. and its still one of my favourite books =)
