I really loved this book. It was so interesting and unlike anything I have read before. The only issue I had was the age of the main charachter. I don't want to give anything away, but just a little weird. I wish he was even a few years older.

Slavery story from just before the Civil War. Recounts story of relationships between masters and their slave "wenches" who bore them children and took care of their needs with the "blessings" of wives and other owners. Spend summer vacation in Ohio resort that caters to these relationships and what it does to the women involved. Well read audio with wonderful characters and a topic that I knew nothing about.

this looked like it would be a charming, quirky character driven book, and it was for the first 1/4. Then it became predictable, trite and preachy. Too bad! my run of great reads has ended! On to the next...

i need to buy this one instead of continuously borrowing from the shelf. Somehow this one small monk manages to transform the most difficult questions into answers of simplicity. Each time i read this i find a gentle mirror being held to myself. hmmm maybe the reason i find myself checking out from the library vs. owning this is because i keep reading and then shelving his words both literally and figuratively in my life.

Superb storytelling and fascinating angle on the history and current affairs of East Africa. Hartley is a journalist based in Kenya. Even if you are not interested in East Africa I think you will find some resonance and inspiration to write, travel, or at least get out of your office and into some meaningful mischief. The Zanzibar Chest is not only the heartbreak of Somalia or Rwanda or Kenya falling apart but the trials and tribulations of a twenty to thirty something writer in his personal pursuits of love, passion, and the ghosts of his father and friends of the colonial history of Britain in the horn of Africa and the Arabian peninsula.

Iron Knight (and Iron Fey series) Meghan sometimes hated her life. She lived in the back bayous in outback Louisiana and was often ridiculed for it. Right as she thought her life was taking a plunge for the worse, strange things started happening. The shadows moved, and things went bump in the night. Then the worse possible happened, her little brother was kidnapped. Not only was he kidnapped, but he was replaced with a Fey Changeling. Meghan would do anything to get her little brother back, even if it meant dealing with the Winter Prince, the one with a heart of ice. Through this ice-y prince she learns that she is not just a human, but she is half fey. She is the Summer King’'s daughter and going into fey, even if it is to retrieve her brother, just might cost the lives of those she loves. At first the series seemed kind of average. I didn’t hat it, but I didn’t immediately fall in love. In the sequel to Iron King, Iron Daughter, I liked it better. Then in Iron Queen I like it just the same. The real icing on the cake was Iron Knight. The tale of a prince who wants to give up his immortality for his love, and in return, gain a soul. Iron Knight blew my mind, not only did it have the most BEAUTIFUL flow of English I have ever seen, it had excellent story qualities. It was a true fairy tale. The character had to overcome his weakness and even overcome his own strengths, all in pursuit of love. Though this series had cussing and some explicit moments, I recommend this book. Iron Knight was worth it. I salute Julie Kagawa. I just can’'t get over how graceful that was, it was amazing. Not to mention, she created one of the most humorous character I'’ve seen all year (Puck, yes, the Shakespeare one, re-invented.) This book, my friends, is going on the shelf of fame. http://www.rachelsbookreviews.com/#!_...

wow, amazing. 3rd time I read it. Second time I don't even think I made it through first 100pgs. This time, it was magical. Some sections could have used editing and they were just plain boring but it was incredible. I sobbed out loud when his cousin died. Don't remember the last time I did that. The idea that Hans chose to stay despite him probably not being sick at all, the scene where he gets lost on the mountain--brilliant brilliant brilliant!
