Great sequel to "Denial of Death"; focus on society instead of individual. Much taken from Girard on scapegoating and how in our desire to heroically overcome evil we end up dealing out evil ourselves. This book is a rebuttal to Marxist/revolutionary hope. Ultimately he has little hope; he thinks perhaps the only way forward is in nonviolent world religious movements (i.e. Gandhi/King).

A collection of short stories...mostly sort of heart wrenching but in a way that seems to have a point.

Excellent historical account. Very interesting for a non-fiction book. Booth was larger then life. You have to be an American history fan to get through the slow spots though.

Good, fairly dark short stories. Some really edgy ones. On the whole, very good and well worth reading. Not quite as good as Perdido Street Station, but very good.

This is a heartbreaking tale told by Jaycee Dugard, who was kidnapped at age 11 and was held hostage for 18 years. She shares openly about the abuse that she suffered - sexual, physical and mental. She tells about depending entirely on her kidnapper for everything and how he assisted her as she gave birth to their two daughters. Philip, the man who kidnapped her and his wife, Nancy, were drug addicts and total nutcases. He heard voices and blamed things that he did on what the angels told him. Jaycee and her daughters are survivors and they are learning to live in the real world and are trying to help others who are in difficult situations as well.

Overlooked war in overlooked period in time. Needs to be read just after "Washing of the Spears" a narrative of the British wars in sub-Saharan Africa in second half of the 19th century.

Hahah, a teen book I'm embarrassed to say I read as an adult, haha. The action was interesting.
