I love this series it is sooo intense and this one was particularly heartwrenching!! I have realized that Jo is never going to be safe!! It is not just the amount of power she carries either that always makes her a target!! It is her intense sense of justice and putting things right that will inevitably get her in even more hot water!! She plays both sides of the fence because she sees the good and bad of both and believes that the wrongs can be made right!! Unfortunately she is the one that ends up the most hurt!! It will be interesting to see how she gets through her latest loss!!

Fascinating read. I loved all the references to people, places, and products with which we are widely familiar today that got their origins during the time, or even at, the World Fair (an event, by the way, that I had not even an inkling of knowledge about.) Even better for creepy little me was weaving into this historical account serial killer Holmes and his story's fit into the time and place. I could have done with a few less architectural details and a few more Holmes chapters. I devoured this book and am passing it on to my husband with high recommendations.

Bernardo is a hero in his small village, where it is believed his height (unknown to them, he has Gigantism) and name protect them from earthquakes - there have been none since he started growing. Now Bernardo must figure out a way to bridge the gap between two cultures and his own feelings of guilt so he can live a life of his own - and he's going to need the help of his family, modern medicine and his old friends to do so.

Het enige woord wat ik er voor over heb: Vaag. Vooral het einde. edit: Dat was wel een hele korte review, maar mijn mening blijft hetzelfde. Het leest heel langzaam, met grote gedeelten die erg saai/droog zijn. Ook het taalgebruik/manier van schrijven stond me totaal tegen en omdat er weinig in het verhaal gebeurde hielp dat ook niet mee. Het laatste gedeelte van het boek leest wat vlotter, omdat daar de 'gebeurtenissen' in zitten. Uiteindelijk toch uitgelezen, maar ik ben gelijk bekoeld van Arnon Grunberg. Misschien toch in de toekomst maar eens een poging wagen aan een van zijn andere boeken. (Tirza is nu ook verfilmd, maar dat begrijp ik al helemaal niet, dat je van zo'n boek een film kunt maken, maar dat is mijn mening. ;))
