this book was amazing. Kingsolver did a great job of creating a space in which her themes could unfurl through strong character development and descriptives.

I enoyed this a lot. However I read it years ago. I'd like to recommend "A Tree Grows In Brooklyn".

This was a cute book which I, as a lifelong fan of Nancy Drew, enjoyed for the most part. Toward the end, it got really old and repetitive to me but I finished it without too much effort. A great start which fizzled in the end. Worth a read but not a must-read.

This is one of my least favorite books. I've never understood the appeal.

I Conquer Britain is the companion book to Sophie Pitt-Turnbull Discovers America, and has much the same to offer readers. It's funny, lighthearted and a quick read, but light on the characterization and plot development. Cherokee is definitely a more entertaining character than Sophie was, although the supporting characters remained disappointingly flat. Dyan Sheldon has the unfortunate habit of dropping hints about how fascinating a character is, and then never mentioning it again. For instance, in I Conquer Britain Cherokee discovers that Nana Bea had a wild youth in which she was arrested, but the reader never learns why, or is even given a clue. Nevertheless, the brief descriptions of London were fun for me (since I absolutely adore London), but I wouldn't give this my highest recommendation.
Hilarious book. At times, I laughed so hard that I woke up my husband...and then, since he was awake, I made him listen to passages. Normally I would be frustrated at the lack of overall plot, but recently I've been a little ADD with my reading, so the short story-esque format suited me just fine.
Call me a nerd, but I read this books for entertainment. I love it, and could not live without it.

Wow, excellent book, goes straight to the top of my list (and the first book I've read in a while that I devoured). If I had started this at bed time, I would have read til 3 in the morning. As it was, I read it in one sitting on a long plane ride. Thanks Nadine for mentioning this book(and I'll return the LPL copy at the end of the week). I can't wait to read her first novel! And I hope she writes lots more. A terrific book about a women trying to come to terms with her dysfunctional family (aren't we all!!!) and with the disappearance of her sister years before. The mystery of the sister's disappearance unravels slowly and I have to say, I thought the ending was perfect (the author could have done it a lot of ways, and I thought she struck exactly the right notes). Just a great read. Highly recommended.

I found this book randomly on a used bookstore shelf; I'm so glad I did. This is a delightful little book! The author has a good feel for the character voices, and even manages to learn something himself while trying to teach the denizens of the Hundred Acre Wood about exercise.
First, know that I am deeply biased when it comes to this book: it's got time travel, which I love with a love that is more than love, and it's got Cyril, who I love with a love that makes my time travel love look like a Tuesday afternoon romance. Plus, it's inspired by - and references, oh my god, REFERENCES! - one of my favorite books, Jerome K. Jerome's Three Men in a Boat. So, you know, I won't even attempt a qualitative review. I'll just say that this is fun, and funny, and it hits my narrative kinks so hard that I would marry it if there was a church that solemnized bibliopolygamy. This book is a frequent re-read and a joy forever.
