Wonderful collection of non-fiction and short stories. About 1/3 is fantastic, 1/3 is ok, and 1/3 I didn't enjoy. Two non-fiction works, one about black jews in Israel, the other on Bill Clinton's fight against AIDS, were my favorites. Although there is a killer short web work about Zombies that I loved.

This is my favourite novel by Virginia Woolf, which might make me considerably odd. It tells the tale of Orlando as both a young man and a young woman, who seems to live an unreasonably long time. The story is light hearted and amusing in the way it pokes and prods at gender expectations and it masquerades as a true biography complete with photographic evidence and footnotes. You must read the footnotes for the full effect. I highly enjoy the playful flouting of society and of traditional biography which this novel embodies.

john jay, james madison and alexander hamilton arguing for our constitution as the constituents of new york close in on a ratifying vote. compelling Lawyers and politicians in the 18th century sound pretty similar to their brethern of today, but the examples used in the arguments are intriguing, both from an historical and present day perspective

This was really bad. I have loved this series. I'm actually having trouble getting through this book while I gave the others five stars. The continual use of the words "retard" and "moron" and the "short bus" jokes was infuriating. From a story line perspective, it's like the author is regurgitating previous story lines with different characters. The characters are flat and you don't care about them. Again, I LOVED this series - one of the few YA series I liked (I am a fan of adult series like Black Dagger Brotherhood, Cat & Bones, Midnight Breed). With this series, either the authors have run out of things to say or they don't care anymore. Very sad.

Like a lot of people, I went through a period of reading every book King wrote when I was in Junior High and High School. This one hooked me deep and hard. I've always had a thing for end of the world stories where most of humanity dies off and we get to follow those who are left. I think it comes from fantasies I had as a kid walking down the street where I had to escape from some mass murderer or live through a nuclear bomb and fend for myself. Anyway, this one was so sweeping in its vision and so descriptive of the end of the world that I was fully caught up in it for days. God I miss the days when I could get through a 1000+ page book in a matter of days because I had nothing else to do. It was a true page turner. I'm not sure that I'd find it as good now as I did then. Whenever I try to read King now, I find it all a bit simplistic, but my memories of it are of an excellent read.

These stories are obviously dated, what with most taking place in the 20s-40s. Don't let that stop you from reading them though, they are great! Quick reads that are gritty and dark and tell great stories about the seedier side of town. Look for copies of these at your thrift book stores. I got mine at Half Price Books!
