A masterful collection by a writer of genius. I believe "The Aleph" is just as good as "Fictions," and "Fictions" is as good as any book of short pieces produced in the 20th Century. If you like paradoxes, puzzles, doppelgangers and labyrinths used as metaphors for the relation of microcosm to macrocosm and the fluid nature of personal identity, then this is the book for you. These stories are profound, but they are written in such an entertaining traditional narrative style that they might often be mistaken for pulp fiction if they weren't so astonishingly elegant.

This book was interesting, but such slow going that I was reading it for six months, then apparently left it on an airplane. Just didn't pull me through!

Considering the book I read before this was soo difficult to get through... I breezed through Vanishing Acts. I loved it... I love the way Picoult writes her characters and makes you relate to them. Although it wasnt as good as My Sister's Keeper... I would definently reccomend Vanishing Acts.

We have thoroughly enjoyed this book! My son uses it to try to call the birds outside. He loves to go through it and play the different bird songs.

Very uniquely done mystery. While not humerous, per se, quite a few parts (actually, I think it was just certain sentences and statements) made me laugh out loud. Interesting characters and character development...she really does put a whole new twist on the detective novel genre. I'm looking forward to reading more of Atkinson's novels.

OK I am a Fforde fan as opposed to a Ford van which is just silly and I'm not sure why I wrote that - could be the large glass of red wine I suppose. Anyhoo, this latest Thursday Next epistle is good and packed to the rafters with literary references/puns and allusions. I found it to be a little more smug than previous episodes and I'm not sure how much farther the series can go without a fairly radical influx of new ideas/characters. I wasn't as gripped by this one as those that have gone before and it is hard to keep a series going (witness the terrible descent into utter boredom of various Piers Anthony series, so I hope Jasper can pull it out of the fire if he writes more Thursday books. I have the Last Dragonslayer to go at soon so hopefully a new set of characters etc. will show Mr Fforde's true colours again. Bye.
First read in 2007. Re-read February 2011
