when i read it in high school, it was an eye-opening novel, a breath of fresh air in my musty midwest environment. read it again recently and found it more entertaining than life-changing.

Would it be too trite to call this a gritty urban tale? After all these years, I still get anxious thinking about Strike's undoing.

This children's book had my kids all laughing! It was amazing. I LOVED it...even more than the Rapunzel one...which is saying a lot.

Not as good as I expected

This is the best of the three. Being chased and the suspense make this an excellent read.

Great book that acts like a fire hose of the Gospel. A larger review will be coming soon but my main issue with this book was that I read Tchividjian's blog so much that I did not seen that much new material in the book. The last chapter was very good but I had read it before over the course of 2 blog posts in the past year that were some of my favorites. If you don't read his blog, this will all feel very fresh and will be a refreshment to you. It was a refreshment to me but not as much as it could have been.

Good maps and some pictures of castles and manses of English Civil War. Also details of all of Cromwell's routes to battles.

This books is haunting and beautifully written. In order to thoroughly appreciate it I had to slow down, walk away on occasion and come back to it refreshed. I would have given this five stars if not for the introduction of another story near the end. I did not want to leave the characters that I had come to know so intimately. Though I enjoyed some of the threads of the original story that were woven into the end, it wasn't enough. As a result, my interest lagged at the end. Still worth the read though and I look forward to Anne Micheal's new book!

Cuba sits on the idea of a facade of hardworking men and the idea that Communism is a balanced and equal governing idea during the late 50's and 60's but if Arenas aims to point out anything in this novel it is that ignorance sure is bliss. The guts of Cuba is full of betrayal, deceit, and dishonesty layered with a sexual revolution that Castro and his sharks aim to seek and destroy. It's a shame Reinaldo Arenas is no longer with us...then again, his death might just be the necessary ingredient in order for his story to be complete, as tragic as it might be.
