Young Boswell strikes out to make a life for himself in London. Along the way he discovers some of the painful lessons of life. Such as: sometimes your father really does know best, never try to get a favor out of an "important person," the importance of forging strong friendships, and, ultimately, don't keep hooking up with loose women in the park. Some of the minutia of his life are a little tedious (much like reading most blogs), and the highlights of conversions can be very hard to follow. But his observations about society of the day, and his own desire to make something of himself, are refreshingly candid.

I was so obsessed with this when it came out, and unabashedly turned into one of those book hipsterz once all the hype built up, casually mentioning to every single person on the planet that I read it way back when. Oh, past me. What a creature you were. Years later, with all 3 books out, I can say with confidence that this IS a great book. It was exhilarating. EXHILARATING. I wanted to be part of this world, I wanted to know my faction (Abnegation!!), I wanted to befriend these characters. The world building was wonderful, the pace breakneck, the emotions high. The love interest PERFECT. God, I love Four. This was an excellent debut, and the hype is so worth it. The following two books....sigh. I have less pleasant things to say about those. BUT THIS ONE? Brilliant.
This was and still is my favorite book by Remarque. It left really a lot of emotions after reading. And a lot of thinking.

I was curios to find about the books. Because the hero is a normal girl. Sookie wants a quiet life without vampires and were's. But she doesn't get one. I was surprised that is a book for children(?!). Some scenes aren't for children. I liked book four in the series but this is more exciting.

This book is eye-opening, to say the least. I had no idea just how bad the fast food corporations are and how bad some of the food that we eat is for us. The book also illuminates the far-reaching cultural, social, economic, and health consequences of the fast food chains and meatpacking industries, such as the horrendous working conditions, the probems caused for generations of farmers and workers, the direct link between the rise of fast food and obesity, and the frightening spread of epidemics like mad cow disease and salmonella. It's worth reading - written in a candid and engaging style, well-researched, and informative.
I loved this book! Three different stories intertwined - all with fascinating characters.

Very good, as usual from Jodi Picoult. She is good at making all the charcters seem like real people. What I love about her books is that Picoult can make any point of view believable, no matter what horrible things the person has done. She proved that ability in this book. The only complaint I really have is the anticlimactic ending. I want to hear how ALL the problems resolved, not just the protagonists. Three stars.

Top of my list, a beat generation adventure to inspire. I've heard the original manuscript is on show somewhere in NYC this Spring.... must find a flight!
