This book was really good. I can't believe the whole series ended with this book though, she could have written a lot more.

Evidently, this book was nominated for the Pulitzer Prize, which surprised me somewhat. The town and locals of that era were painted very well, and I could see the "light" and feel the heat of the days covered by the story. The story is told by several narrators, and each has a recognizable voice, and they tell the story well. There is some jumping around in time, but it is still easy to follow. It illustrates how one tiny thing...Gilley tattling that his sister didn't return her library books...can trigger a whole series of events. However, there wasn't going to be a good outcome in this situation. Obsession rarely has a good end. It was a good read, but not as spectacular as I might have expected.

Wow what a great, creative, and fun books to read. I am really glad that I have attempted to read these books. They are so different than the normal fiction that I read. They are full of whimsy, fantasy, and adventure.
Janson's is the standard art history for a reason.
Heartbreaking.

It was a crazy outlet into someone else's eyes of what "as" is. I don't like the inconclusive ending.

Karen I listened to this, which I think was a great read, but I want to get a hold of the print edition too to see what it looks like. I can imagine the imagery of the devil-heads and other drawings that might accompany the text. I thought this was really funny. A definite read for any rock music nerds out there who like YA lit. I love all of the band and stage names. I wish there had been some definite closure on Chi-mo's father's death.

My eye recently stopped on this book when I was looking through my bookshelf for something to read. I'd forgotten how entertaining it was and also how much I like George Orwell's style of writing. I'm sure that my love of animals and politics has contributed to its appeal but the pure genius of Orwell in using farm animals to convey the dangers of Communism is amazing. After studying the Russian Revolution to a greater extent in college and also reading the works of Trotsky and Lenin I understood the book to a greater extent. 'All are equal, except some are more equal than others.' I'll bet that not only Communist countries are cursed with this thinking though... just watch the news.
